'20 TX QB Haynes King (TAMU Commit)

New article from Gabe Brooks on A&M247 site...

Tennessee offered King in early January. Head coach Jeremy Pruitt, offensive coordinator Jim Chaney, and quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke have spearheaded the Volunteers' pursuit of King, who took an unofficial visit in mid-March to Knoxville. Tennessee's staff has developed a strong relationship with King, he said.

"They have great people there," said King, who is the nation's top uncommitted 2020 QB on the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and Top247 rankings.. "The people I usually talk to are coach Pruitt, coach Weinke, and coach Chaney. All three of them have proven to win everywhere they've been. That intrigues you a little bit. I met some people on my visit who have been through some things and the coaches there have kept their word on getting a degree there. That kinda opened my eyes and it's real comforting that if a coach says you're going to come get a degree here, you will.

"They're going to coach you hard. When I went up there in the spring, I watched them coach and they were good. They were moving from drill to drill pretty fast, moving with purpose and coaching with purpose. There wasn't really any wasted reps. They were getting after it. They're just going to stay after you. But it's real comforting to know that they will be there for you."

Wonder if we're the Miami in this recruitment.
We weren’t but A&M has made up some ground. We’ll see if location or relationships are more important. King has said distance isn’t a factor. Chaney and Weinke probably have the edge as far as having recruiting him longer and having a comfort factor there. I still lean Vols but I think A&M has done everything they can.

Did I blackout or did Ron post an article and now its gone? Mightve gotten the ignore by Ronald himself!

EDIT: Nevermind. Doesnt seem like he is really feeling anywhere, only slightly get the vibe he is A&M leaning because of distance.

Mods must have deleted most of the article and left in the UT stuff. The A&M stuff basically said it's close to home, family could easliy come to games, Jimbo puts guys in the league, etc. Sounds like a tight one here with UT and A&M.

Honestly, even if we don't get King, these quotes inspire a lot of confidence in our current staff.

Sounds like King knows that the situation here might be tougher (with Maurer and Bailey on the depth chart), but that he likes the coaching staff here the best based on their ability to develop players. Makes me feel more optimistic about the long-run with Pruitt.

i think this is probably pretty close. but the two things that stick out to me for aTm are the fact that they're not actively going after any other QB in this class and they don't have anyone committed currently.

that's a heck of an opportunity for the in state school to dangle out there.....

i think it's obvious we've put our best foot forward here though. i won't be surprised either way. i can see how either choice makes a ton of sense.

i wouldn't predict this one either....

They didn’t even offer him until May. Seems like to me they did go after someone and missed.

may have, if so, i just didn't really look that hard.....

i know in looking at their board on 247, there's not a lot of activity at QB except for King. there's another kid from TX that's a 4* that looks to be a lock to UNC....but past that?

they do have 5 qb's on the roster...we have 4, so maybe that evens things out with having HB in the fold for this class.

hope he comes here. there's worse problems to have than having 2 or 3 blue chip qb's on the roster.

Casey Clausen and John Rattay were both in the same class as well.
Yes, but those were not as exciting as the Stewart/Peyton combo. I remember being excited about Clausen and EA and thinking the other two would be there if they didn't work out. With BS/PM it was more how can this work. Which is what I think with this situation.
