'18 TX S Joshua Moore (Texas transfer)

As of right now, does UT have any kids from IMG? I haven't checked it, but I was thinking we have one, but for some reason, I get IMG and St. Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale confused, maybe because they are both football factories

No we don't have any IMG kids. CLS was down there back in February checking in on some recruits. We have some players from STA though. We got Bennett (DL) and Josh Palmer (WR) this class. We are recruiting Elijah Moore (WR) from STA this class and he just received an invite to the opening due to his performance at the Opening Regional in Orlando.

I doubt we get any kids from IMG. All Clemson, Bama, OSU, FSU

CLS said the staff wasn't going to back down from anybody on the recruiting trail. He was at IMG on Jan 17th. So, I believe what he says to stand true. You can't say just because a kid commits somewhere else, that you quit recruiting. See the recruitment of Da'Rick, Byrd, Jelly, Dobbs, Bray, and Reid etc. Just like we got our foot in the door at STA, we can do the same at IMG. The team goes on a summer tour, and hopefully, the staff can get them to come to Tennessee while they are on the road.

Thanks MV for the info. Probably gives Coach Scott a better chance of getting some of these south Florida kids, now that he is the OC

Of course, these IMG kids could be from anywhere. But, I assume it's still CLS's region, unless, I guess, whoever, started recruiting this kid in Texas, just continued to be the main recruiter./?

It's just hard to compete with these states like FL and GA when they (FSU, UGA, FL, Miami, etc.) have the very best talent in the country in their back yard. Tennessee has a handful of elite talent while these others have them almost everywhere.

Most years that is true, CB. But, this year is different, imo. I have never seen this much talent in the state of Tennessee. If we put a fence around the state this year, we will have a top 5 class

Generic comments. This kid isn't coming here

I definitely would not say Tennessee "is far and away his favorite school and that he is a huge Tennessee lean." I know he once referred to UT as his leader back in September just based on his interactions with the Vols' coaches and Alontae Taylor. But even that seemed premature at the time, and a lot has changed in his recruitment since then. He admitted a lot has changed in his recruitment even since his recent move to IMG because he's visiting schools he hadn't seen before.

His brother is committed to Texas A&M and his family still lives in Texas, so even though he's at IMG now, the Texas schools definitely could play a major role in his decision. Florida State, which wasn't even in his top 14 that he released in late December, now is the Crystal Ball favorite to land him. A bunch of schools — major programs, at that — are in the picture, so even though Tennessee was a contender before Friday's visit, I probably wouldn't have said the Vols were even among his top three or so before he arrived on campus. Now that he's been to Knoxville, perhaps they have a little bit better chance, but it's going to depend on whether he follows through on his plan to make it back to Tennessee for at least a couple more visits. If he does visit the Vols again this spring, I would say they have a legitimate chance. But I don't think they're his leader right now. In fact, I thought the fact that he said UT was "much better" than he expected it to be was interesting in regard to what he might have truly thought of the Vols going into the visit.

Moore said he's hoping to release an updated list of favorites pretty soon, so that should give us a slightly better idea of which teams represent Tennessee's primary competition for him.

Post on VQ last night from Simonton...

Will have a story on 4-star wideout Joshua Moore in the morning, but the IMG product RAVED about new receivers coach Kevin Beard.

Here's a sampling of Moore's comments...

"Me and coach Beard. We have a relationship that’s crazy. We started building that way back at Georgia last year, so it’s not like it’s a wide receivers coach that I don’t even know. I’ve been knowing him for two years now."

"He’s a funny guy. He knows how to bond with his players really well. He doesn’t only speak football whenever you’re around him. He likes to educate you in life as well. That’s big with me. He’s just a guy you would want to get coached by for four years. He’s that type of guy."

Tennessee is in a heated battle for Moore, but it was big that he finally made his way to campus on Friday. If he returns again later this spring (he plans to attend the O&W Game), then the Vols could find themselves truly in the mix here.

“The visit was great,” Moore told Volquest. “It definitely exceeded my expectations of what it was going to be like. Before, I just had a visual image of what it would be like, but being able to actually see everything for myself that made it 10x better.”

“Me and coach Beard, we have a relationship that’s crazy,” Moore said. “We started building that way back at Georgia last year, so it’s not like it’s a wide receivers coach that I don’t even know. I’ve been knowing him for two years now.” Moore respects Beard’s young soul, explaining that he can relate well to players because he’ll talk about anything: music, football, life, etc. “He’s a funny guy. He knows how to bond with his players really well,” Moore explained.

“He doesn’t only speak football whenever you’re around him. He likes to educate you in life as well. That’s big with me. He’s just a guy you would want to get coached by for four years. He’s that type of guy. He’s the type of coach that’ll sit down and just play Madden with you. That’s what I like.”

Moore also had the opportunity to meet head coach Butch Jones for the first time Friday. The two had chatted via FaceTime on numerous occasions, but Moore’s first official interactions with Jones were quite memorable, too.

“Two or three days prior to the visit, we were in (constant) contact each and every day. I’d call him at lunchtime, he’d text me,” Moore said. “We texted back and forth. When I finally when up there, I was able to shake his hand, look him in the eye and we had a conversation that I’ll remember for the rest of my life.” According to Moore, Jones delivered a message of opportunity — both football and beyond. “He left me with some things to think about which is good,” Moore said.

Moore also said he and Alontae Taylor text almost daily, he said they're like brothers. He's wide open trying to make best decision possible and will definitely be back to UT for another visit.

One big thing here was him saying he wants to come back, possibly even as soon as the O&W game. If we can get him back on campus a couple times before the season starts and one more on an official during the season, I would think we have as good of a shot as anyone.
