'25 TX TE Jack Van Dorselaer (Tennessee)

I don’t think the 105 scholly limit goes into effect till 2025-2026 school year, correct me if wrong? So technically we are still working within a limit this year at 82-83 so they might want to use that scholarship for another position knowing we have Okoye there now.

Seemed like the last sentence gave it away but it’s hard to decipher what AP is saying half the time he writes so who knows
I think you read that wrong. Okoye and Chandavian Bradley aren't in the TE room anymore so we wanted two rather than just Jack.

It seemed like Jack said all the right things and chose to toe the company line thru the process of us pursuing an additional TE, especially when Brame initially chose Oregon. When the reality set in that Brame was in the boat, Sneed was coming in behind them in the 2026 class, and we are still pursuing Kendre Harrison in that class, I think some uneasiness may have set in that he may need to keep some options open.

Texas is a decent piece from Tennessee to not be 100% certain you're going to the best situation for yourself.

Oh gotcha forgot Okoye moved to DE, AP has a way with words that baffles me still
he tries to make a sentence worth of content into a paragraph and a half to justify his pay scale.

its his job to fluff. and without the prerequisite skills as a wordsmith that fluff comes across as a lot of uncertainty and unspecificity.

he needs to learn from Kevin's mechanic: Why use many word when few word do trick?

If he is afraid of the competition, maybe he is not the guy we need.just take up a spot on the bench. We need guys who are willing to fight for playing time.
He may be highly rated. And you all may not want to hear this question, but we want the best of the best. Now, he may be looking for specific offense, but fighting off SMU doesnt do much to inspire confidence that this player is the best. So is he the best? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jack is projected as more of an in-line TE like Sneed. Brame is more of a flex TE. We need both. If he decides to go elsewhere, there is always the portal.

It's closer to home, and a small school which may be beneficial for him. Not everyone is built for a large environment away from home.

Not sure why us taking another TE when we only have 2-3 returning scholarship TEs is scaring this guy off.

I’m gonna take a guess that SMU came at him with a bigger NIL offer. Let’s remember what school we’re talking about here.
I would assume that there hasn't been much NIL discussion on our end before now. I don't know that SMU would be offering a ton of money. The word is that Brame took less than half of what Oregon offered to come here and he's much more highly regarded than Jack currently (by recruiting rankings).

He’s a good player. He’s the first TE that coach Ablen targeted when he got the job. Anyone saying losing him is no big deal doesn’t know what they’re talking about. But I don’t think we have much to worry about in that regard.
I want to keep him and I’m not trying to diminish his value in the class but couldn’t we add comparable value in the portal if needed?

I mean potentially if there is a guy with the same skill set. But all things being equal you prefer to bring guys in from HS and develop them in your system. The portal can be used to fill holes and supplement the roster. But the foundation is always built through recruiting.

Jack’s definitely the one I trust the most to be able to block right away of the big four in 2025 and 2026 which in a super young room could come in handy. That would be my biggest concern if he were to flip. Brame and Sneed are going to be really good receivers but will have to grow into their frames. Kendre Harrison is a freak with his size and athleticism but he’s used mainly as a receiver as well and for good reason. Abes is also a former OL guy so I trust him to develop blocking so I’m not worried about it but they’ll have to find someone for the room like they did with Miles K imo if they lose Jack to another program. So wouldn’t be end of world but would be a notable loss imo

I doubt he’d flip from us to SMU, and if he does it’s because he’s encouraged to do so like Echols last year.
