'25 TX TE Jack Van Dorselaer (Tennessee)

Echols wasn’t encouraged to flip. Unless you mean by the guy who was his position coach, who ended up becoming the head coach at USF (which is where he flipped to).
Idk if he was “encouraged” to flip but we had cut off contact for the most part. Pretty sure you can find AP saying similar but maybe I’m wrong on that. Like you said there were other factors as well but we weren’t really broken up that he went in another direction.

We replaced him with Cole Harrison who I forgot about and haven't heard anything about yet. I'm not going to lose sleep over Echols not being here but I think he was better than we replaced with. With the transfer portal and the way we are recruiting the position now we will be fine

They have been very impressed with and love Cole Harrison. He just needs a year of physical development, like most will, in order to contribute at this level. The TE room guys have all mentioned him.

While Van Dorselaer hasn't recorded any offensive stats this season, he's excelled at EDGE for undefeated Southlake Carroll. Stats through their first 5 games: 43 tackles, 6 TFL, 3 sacks, 9 QB hurries, and 1 forced fumble.

You have an SEC TE and don’t get him the ball?

This kind of feels like a red flag. Either an indictment of a coach unwilling to play him on offense and/or feature him (which seems doubtful), or of a player who simply isn't a good offensive football player.

HOW MANY RECEPTIONS DID JASON WHITTEN HAVE AS TE IN HIGH SCHOOL NEGAVOL!

Looked into this a bit more and learned that he's not playing on offense this season. Based on their players' receiving stats this year, Southlake Carroll doesn't appear to be utilizing a TE in their passing attack.

That defensive charge is led by senior Van Dorselaer, a Tennessee pledge, who moved to the defense just before the season began. No. 8 on the Star-Telegram’s area top 100 player list, Van Dorselaer has led the team in tackles entering the Timber Creek game with 32.

“I am getting more and more comfortable playing defense,” said Van Dorselaer, who credited his coaches and teammates with helping him with the transition. “Our coaches have been unbelievable in helping me get ready, and the teammates as well.” Van Dorselaer said the best part of playing defense is “hitting people”. “I like the aggressiveness of playing defense,” he said. “On offense, you know what the play is going to be. But on defense, you have to react on the fly. And I like knowing I have a chance to make a play on every play on defense.”

Coach Dodge added that Van Dorselaer has made a very smooth transition to the other side of the ball. “He is such a talented athlete,” said Coach Dodge. “He just keeps getting better and better as the season goes along.”

If I was projected to and trying to play tight end in college and my hs coach said no tight ends this year, I’d find a new high school.

Must be a really high character, team first type of guy if he’s willing to completely forgo his development for the teams needs.
