Dabo had an elite DC who is a subpar HC, sounds familiar. . . He can have all the talent in world, and we will still skull drag them. the reason thye went on their run was bc Elite QB play, and well they don't have that. They're on a downward slope, especially is FSU gets their stuff together

I've been slow to react to Clemson falling off because a lot of our fans typically see a negative trend and automatically project that to an imminent collapse.

But this is two OCs, and a new DC later, now. The defense didn't look terrible. They gave up 374 yards to a team whose QB is considered a darkhorse 1st round prospect. The offense, on the other hand, looked pretty neutered. They are missing the playmaker they had in the past. So does Wesco make a difference in the product, or does the product neuter Wesco?

I'm still not ready to say Clemson is doomed and headed for perpetual 8-4 seasons because the way they lost was really fluky with 2 lost fumbles on 1st and goal, 2 missed gimme FGs, a premature slide on 4th down, a tipped INT, etc. The stats from that game don't tell the story of the outcome. But if they can't figure out how to value the football and clean up the OL play, they will certainly continue this step backwards from their heyday.

When does that begin to affect recruiting? It might not be this year, but going forward, and their conference uncertainty, those things are going to start adding up.

Got a feeling Dabo's "commit or lose your spot" and "don't take any visits once you've committed" policies are about to backfire.
Yeah, that policy works when you can essentially sign whoever you want. You kinda hold the cards. When you hit a wall, though, how do you enforce that policy to your own detriment? It just doesn't work.

Clemson will still be good this year they had two fumbles within the 5 or they would scored more points.

Their offense is short on play makers, but that becomes a selling point for them though.

Clemson plays Florida State on Sep 23rd. Florida State will torch them. Both Notre Dame and North Carolina have a legitimate shot to beat Clemson as well.

“We have 56 blue chip players currently, including a 5 star QB and RB, but man if you come here then that’ll really do the trick!”

Really?

Duke muffed a punt when they had all of the momentum, allowing Clemson to score their only TD. And they also had a untimely fumble of their own. So the turnovers went both ways.

They play in the ACC. Doom and imminent collapse is kind of relative there. You can be a mediocre team and win that conference; see Clemson last year.

You have a much looser definition of mediocre than I to describe 2022 Clemson as such. They weren't elite, but they weren't mediocre.

They didn’t have a good qb situation. They wouldve been be a mediocre SEC team imo last year.

Sure, but that could happen to any team in any season, especially in the transfer portal era. Few teams are able to stockpile talent at the most important position each and every year. Those kids want to play and most will seek greener pastures when they don't win the job. Clemson's options were a previously underperforming upperclassman and an inexperienced true freshman. Sound familiar? We could go down a very similar path if Milton got hurt or flops. It wouldn't necessarily change our trajectory as a program because we had one year of QB troubles.

I am not sure why everyone jumps to the conclusion that a bad game (or even several for that matter) leads to a quick decision for commits to immediately reconsider. Many of these guys, having been the best player on their teams for years, see this as an opportunity to play sooner and take that school back to the promised land.

Uncommitted prospects may feel differently but I suspect most that most who have already committed see a chance to bring the program back to prominence,
