'22 TX WR Evan Stewart (Oregon)

It'd be hard not to find Stewart on the field in the slot of her came here.

Brazell and thorton are outside guys. Bru can actually play either, depending on the situation. Then you've got keyton, nimrod, Webb, Leacock and the incoming freshman and I'm not convinced Williams doesn't find himself battling for PT.

I think the wr room is now a strength and the challenge will be how to get these guys opportunities.

Bru is the most physical wr we have and is important for both those possession catches you need across the middle of the field and blocking inn the run game. So I think if he's 100, it'll be hard not have him out there a good bit.

It's also why I won't be surprised if we see a couple of those guys look for landing spots elsewhere later on.

I’m advocating replacing Bru in general due to his injury.
Tell Bru to go

Start Stewart / Squirrel / Brazzell or whoever

Don’t trust Bru’s injury, he could get hurt week 1 and we’d be ****ed
You advocated starting Stewart, Squirrel, and Brazzell.

If Bru leaves, it’s likely Thornton, Brazzell, and either Squirrel or Stewart…because they both play the slot.

Simple yes or no question

Do you think Stewart can get 300-400 yards playing the outside?

Not to sound like a negavol, because I’d love to see us land Stewart – he could be a game changer at receiver. But, I have a really good friend that’s an Aggie alum and according to their boards there’s not a lot of Aggie fans or players, including QB Connor Weigman, that are sad to see him go. Rumors are he was a problem in the locker room. But then again they’re saying the same thing about Walter Nolan. So, who knows? Maybe it’s just all sour grapes because they want to leave. I just don’t want to see someone with all the talent in the world ruin the locker room chemistry like Kelly Washington did back in the day. But everything I’ve read says Heup only goes after high-character guys, so if he wants Stewart I trust his judgment.

If we bring in Stewart and keep McCoy that room is going to be very interesting unless we have some departures. Stewart is a slot guy, what message does that send to squirrel? Is Stewart a willing blocker? Our outside guys have to be very able blockers. If they bring in Stewart I think it will be because the writing is on the wall that McCoy is gone. If not could we see Squirrel hit the portal market?

I believe we will see 2 out of 3 in Webb/Nimrod/Leacock hit the portal between the bowl game and the summer regardless. If you bring in Stewart and Squirrel hits the market you have just decimated your future in that room and will be reliant on the transfer portal again to fill gaps for the next couple of years and hope you really hit on your HS recruiting.

PAY THE MAN
That is probably the key to further dialog. Can’t add him if his demands stress out the room as constructed today. Don’t have a clue what his floor or ceiling numbers are. We need to put our number out there and let him weigh ALL the factors in his calculation and let the chips fall.

Sounds like cope from a fanbase losing a dynamic player.

Well, you’d be pushing White to the Portal.

If that’s the case, I wouldn’t touch Stewart. If Evan is fine playing outside, then take him.

Squirrel > Stewart. If I have to pull this seasons stats I will.
That's my assumption. Brazzell, White and Stewart would be a nice set of toys to give Nico for xmas.

Bringing in Stewart probably does mean that a good player for us enters the portal. We’re trying to make the playoffs in this 2024-25 Nico window so I guess it’s just a casualty of the ambition.

Stewart may not even come here but I’m sure the coaches are giving heavy thought to how it will impact the WR room.

Is Evan better than Squirrel, when I say that, I mean do you want one year of Evan or two more of Squirrel? I’ll take 2 more of squirrel.

You can make an arguement that Squirrel is a better WR, take a look at the stats from this season, pretty comparable. So would you replace a 2yr guy with a 1yr guy that’s very close?

No, I would take him contingent upon if he is fine playing outside. If he is only gonna be here one year anyways, then put him outside let him get his 400+ yards and send him off to the NFL, meanwhile you get Squirrel back for the 2025 season

Matthews is slot. Brazzell and Thornton are both outside…no conflict.
I think you may be a little off there. I am pretty sure Matthews is outside with Staley being more of the slot guy. Matthews brings so much to the table that I don’t see how you keep him off the field as should be with him being a 5 star talent unless you intentionally do so. If Bru is gone it could easily become Matthews, Squirrel, Brazzell as the rotation.

Sorry I didn’t realize Matthews was a slot guy. If we land Stewart I think White hits the portal then.
Mebbe not be in such a hurry? Every time we lose a transfer, the word “DEPTH”’gets mentioned. No way to know how day one ready Matthews OR Stewart would be and one ding has threads about roster malfeasance pouring in from the FF. 😴

I think either Webb/Nimrod are out if we land Stewart, the staff will push for SW and Bru to stay no matter what

And I’m equally confident you’re wrong. And they’re both freshmen…high end variety but beginning the learning curve. You do know injuries are an omnipresent reality? How about we don’t throw team fortunes into three baskets? Matthews is a prototype slot, and it’s waiting there for him when he’s acclimated. I expect that to be accelerated compared to Squirrel as a true freshman, but similarly Matthews has some talent experienced and ahead of him.

Probably. Any WR on this team can. When people phrase questions, “simple yes or no,” it’s because they want to remove context and nuance from the equation in order to force an agenda. Even so, your question is irrelevant in a conversation about playing someone out of position.

Do you think receiving yards are the only thing an outside WR is responsible for in this offense? “Simple yes or no question.”

It’ll be interesting to see which way the target moves this time.
