please don't start this again. do the tyler fangirls realize how much the game has changed since ps started coaching some 35 years ago? you perhaps miss the fact that ps's last 10-15 years were pretty lean except for the Parker interregnum--one brief period of Vol prosperity between two long stretches of less than stellar play--the second of which is ongoing.

How about we let Tyler get a little experience before we put pressure on this kid. Times and the landscape of women's basketball has changed since Pat started her coaching career.

Patience, yes. But not cynicism.

Evidently I've followed Tyler's legitimate coaching development closer than most. This is a 23 year old with the hands-on coaching experience of a 32 year old. He also understands the intangibles of creating a championship program.
He is already the real deal.

Nevertheless, he has to prove himself, and he's in a tough place to do it. If he can restore LaTech to a legitimate Sweet16 contender in three years, he'll have made his case. The Summitt name isn't going to do it. LaTech already had THE name (Theresa Weatherspoon) for that region and the program dwindled instead of rebounded. Women's basketball is trending downward in Ruston. Tyler's got a lot more work to do there (total program) than people realize.

So if you think the Lady Vols program has plateaued and is in the process of declining...
if you dream of Tyler returning to write Chapter Two of the Summitt Dynasty in Knoxville...

...then Ruston is exactly where you want Tyler Summitt to be right now--proving that the weighty stone of glories past can be rolled off the tomb and the dead rise again.

I've read we will play LaTech next year (unconfirmed). Gotta figure Tyler will insist on the toughest schedule possible, so expect for the near future we will meet annually. How many "LaTech vs Tennessee" games do you think will be played before Tyler's girls win? Two? Three? Four?

And what if that first win happens in Knoxville. At the end of that Lady Vol defeat, what percentage of the UT crowd may find themselves applauding "the name on the court?"

The fact that we have fans that define prosperity as strictly winning championships speaks volumes for the legacy Pat Summitt left behind. Tennessee made the Final Four 7 times in Pat Summitt's last 13 seasons. I wish all of our teams were "less than stellar".

don't you think that CPS had a little to do with that ? just a little ?

I don't know if Tyler would want to come here,he would have to follow the legend of Womens College Basketball, because of his last name and then have to put up with all the lets fire him crap

Tyler only made the sweet 16 this year,he is a failure, his mom could have done better, why doesn't he have the stare?and all the rest,do you really think he wants all that ?

Whether he is a good basketball coach remains to be seen, but he already talks a good game. Would like to hear some of that confidence and talk of toughness from our head coach.

So two weeks ago, Tyler Summitt probably knocked on men's head coach Mike White's door, introduced himself, and asked if Coach White had a moment to answer a few questions about the program, support staff, facilities, etc. at La Tech.

Two weeks later, Mike White is knocking on women's head coach Tyler Summitt's door to ask if Tyler has a moment to answer a few questions about the program, support staff, facilities, etc. at Tennessee.

Guess they don't call it a revolving door for nothing.

While it may be true that Tyler Summitt got the initial interview because of his last name, your comment that that is the only reason he got the job shows a complete lack of knowledge regarding Tyler Summitt's experience in coaching as well as a lack of understanding of his presentation as an individual.

I also think you give too little credit to the athletic director, whose job depends on making good hires over a period of time. Hiring someone "just" because of their last name would, in my opinion, be the height of stupidity.
