U.S. citizens kidnapped in Mexico

I know this may be harsh but I really have no sympathy for people who willingly travel to dangerous hot spots and get in trouble. The US government shouldn't have to bail you out of trouble for making idiotic life choices.

crazy that a town on our border is a "war zone" (as described by another poster) and a dangerous hot spot.

I have no sympathy for our government allowing this to get to this point over the last several decades

What are we going to do? Invade Mexico? 20 odd years of failed counter-insurgency operations in the Mid-East doesn't exactly spell confidence in our military.

1. If applied universally that will be great. Not just Mexico

2. Approved isn't the same as cheap. Running to Mexico for a cheap bbl can't really be fixed on a res
Cost could be cheaper than off res. Doesn't have to be same cost for people to not put themselves in jeopardy.

Take the cartels money train, which is the importation of illegal drugs. That's a multi-billion dollar a year business which gives them the means to buy politicians and police on both sides of the border. That's enough money to justify the risk and the violence to protect their turf. Sure they would go into other rackets but none would come close to being as lucrative as drugs.

They could have flown to Cancun, Cozumel or the other resort towns that are relatively safe.

These procedures, often using toxic materials have been proven time and again a bad idea. Having it done on a border town in a major drug smuggling corridor where outsiders stand out and bring attention to themselves is an even worse idea.

That all being said I hope the survivors recover. Prayers for the families of those lost.

Don’t care about cost. Access.

If you want a cheaper butt lift, than by all means head south to Mexico - safe travels.

Is there no uproar fr these folks because they are not black lesbians? Seem we should be doing something more to try and find these people

the question isn't a matter of who. Its a question of "do what"?

make Mexico pay for it? ha.
we already "cooperate" with Mexico to "fight" the cartels.
Full blown invasion to chase cartels? Thats a terrible idea that would lead to far more suffering than the offense. And historically hasn't worked out well for us.

change WoDrugs policy
change immigration policy to end this just come in and claim asylum nonsense
redeploy border resources to intercept more fentanyl
guest worker program
follow other suggestions from Mc Dad

just to start - rational policy would go a long way; not suggesting a military solution

It's whack-a-mole, take one cartel or it's leader down another pops up, we can't kill or imprison our way to a fix.

I just assumed if we can run a missle up Isis ass and infiltrate a cave over 1000 miles away that maybe we can handle a cartel 100 miles away from the border..

Sure. We could easily take out a cartel. What would that change?

Would it change the demand forecast?
Would it change the profit margins?

Would another cartel answer those questions and fill the void?

Idk what it would change...but it would take time for another cartel to take over...wipe out enough of them and you can make a dent..at least for a lil while unless we were willing to go all out against them.

Are you kidding? Besides being wrong about the gravity of the risk, are you a sociopath?

20-30 million Americans visit Mexico every year and I found there were 75 US citizens who died by homicide in Mexico in 2021. This includes tourists and people living in Mexico. So let's say the average American tourist is in Mexico for 2 weeks. That means the murder rate of US citizens is 9 per 100k annually*. There are at least a dozen US states with higher murder rates.

*My math: 75/(20m/100k)*25

Idk but countries feel they can just snatch our citizens with out consequences....so what do you suggest we do?
Nothing. If I decide to go visit a foreign craphole run by gangs I really don't expect the US govt to bomb them if something happens to me. You do?
