Question - Many on this board questioned Obama's leadership as it relates to the Syrian cause. Putin was brought up many times as a great leader who would have had a stronger better reaction. It appears that Putin is not going to have a strong reaction to this incident besides running his mouth. What do you think of Putin now? Is he a paper tiger?

The War Powers Resolution (of 1973) requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without a Congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States. The resolution was passed by two-thirds of Congress, overriding a presidential veto.

It has been alleged that the War Powers Resolution has been violated in the past – for example, by President Bill Clinton in 1999, during the bombing campaign in Kosovo. Congress has disapproved all such incidents, but none has resulted in any successful legal actions being taken against the president for alleged violations.

There is a Russian frigate on its way to the eastern Med. Supposed to make port in Syria. Loaded with cruise missiles.

They are upset they don't have a President they can boss around any more like the last 8 years.

I just fail to see the point in us flexing our muscles. I wish we would just stay out of it for once. We don't need another war. And it's especially alarming for someone my age, 23 bc I'd in the age group to get dragged into war

As I said before, I do hope it ends here.

Foxnews.com report this morning:

Three days after a chemical weapons attack killed dozens of civilians in Syria, the US reacted by launching its first direct military strikes against the Syrian regime.

The US launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles from its warships in the eastern Mediterranean early Friday, taking aim at the Syrian airbase it believes houses the aircraft that carried out the attack.

But it’s not just Syria that uses the Shayrat airfield — Russia, its key ally, has forces based there too.

What we know about the base

Russia has had forces deployed at Shayrat since late 2015 as part of its current operation in Syria, and has used Shayrat to launch attacks against ISIS in the battle for the city of Palmyra.

Russia uses it as a forward operating base for attack helicopters and has invested a lot of money in updating and upgrading the base, though it has now been severely damaged by the US military.

Despite being warned of the attack in advance, it appears Russia did not deploy surface-to-air missiles, which are capable of taking out US Tomahawk missiles.

I asked for a link. Not an excerpt of your choosing. Also, that's a vary vague paragraph. What of Russias was damaged. I also don't see an article stating such.

OBV, how big was the airbase? And I am not expert but it looked like some of those bunkers got hit more than once.
