UAB is Back!

So UAB has a huge game this weekend - North Texas.

UAB is 4 - 1; 3-0 in conference. Beating UNT would give them a near unsurmountable lead in the CUSA West and a path to 11-1 and Conf Champ Game.

Currently ranked 11th in Total Defense in NCAA.

Stay tuned.

2nd year back from self-imposed death penalty. Bill Clark rocks!

What he's done has been impressive (even before they went away).

What happened to UAB football is one of the pettiest things I've ever seen. It's like an elephant (pun intended) stepping on a mouse because it was annoyed with it.
it was the elephant stepping on the mouse because the mouse ate some of the elephants food. even though the amount of food the mouse could eat would never impact the elephant, the elephant didn't like sharing.

How does legion field look these days?
I went down there in 93 for the Bama UT tie

They've done as much as they can with it. Took down the upper deck years ago.

The good news is since it's off campus and a city facility they serve all sorts of alcohol (beer and liquor) at the game and let a bunch of vendors in so the food situation is pretty good.

Still a dump and sketchy neighborhood

I heard Birmingham is building a new football stadium, true? Will UAB play there eventually?

UAB rolling along.

Wins tonight 52-3 against conf foe UTSA.

8-1; 6-0 CUSA.

Home win streak extended to 11 (11-0 since brought back from the dead)

Should be Top 25 this week.

Southern Miss at home next week then on the road at Texas A&M. A win against the Aggies would give UAB 3 SEC W wins (LSU(Saban); Miss St. and TAMU). Finish with MTSU.

Can I ask what happened to UAB? I know they canceled their football program and brought it back, I’ve heard rumblings it had something to do with Bama but I don’t know what?

I’m just curious

Shortest version is Board of Trustees for UA System (UAB, UA, UAH) was against UAB having football (board dominated by Paul "Bear" Bryant, Jr.). Over the years screwed UAB and eventually succeeded in having UAB President cancel football.

Community (UAB, local biz community, alumni) fought back - football was reinstated after self-imposed death penalty.

This second year back is the best year in UAB Football history (started in 1990s).

Google it and you'll find tons of stories about the shenanigans.

Wow you weren’t kidding.

That’s awesome that you guys have turned around so quickly. Glad you are getting a new stadium too.

And you’ve given me a new reason to hate Alabama!

I know I’ll be rooting for UAB (as long as they aren’t playing TN)

I think I remember watching them play us when Dooley was coach, it went to OT and the only reason UT won is because UAB missd like five FG. I walked out feeling like the better team lost that day (a big sign that Dooley was a terrible coach)

So this is only the 2nd time in school history and the first time as an FBS level program that they've managed to get up to 9 wins. They play Texas A&M, MTSU, have exceeded the minimum requirements to play in a bowl game, and will likely play in the Conference USA Championship game.

I honestly don't think they are capable yet of beating Texas A&M, but I could easily see them winning every other game they play.

They are in the CUSA Championship game for sure. Only question now is whether it's a home game or at the CUSA East champ. Win against MTSU and it's in Bham.

25th in Coaches poll. Crazy thing is, they are ranked ahead of TAMU. Doubt they'll be favorites...

I know they aren't going to make one of the six major bowl games, but if they win out, or at least beat MTSU and whoever they play in the conference championship, give them the invite to a semi decent bowl game at least. As they're right there in the city, I wonder if the Birminghan Bowl would pick them. Despite being a meh type bowl, they've had some good games before.
