UCF National Championship Parade

It is what you do over the entire season and bama did not get it done against Auburn. Auburn was clearly a better team.

"Clearly better?" They were clearly better on that day, but either you care about "the entire season" or you don't. Auburn beat Bama. They lost to Clemson, LSU, and UGA. Remember which team beat all three?

Here's my problem with the delusional self-rewarding " National Title "that UCF is giving themselves. Their fans keep mentioning how so many programs have rewarded themselves national titles throughout history. Well that's not true. Before the BCS system, there were a few really respected organizations that studied the teams and awarded the national champs. THAT WAS THE SYSTEM. Ever since the BCS was instated and now the CFB Playoff Nat'l Championship -- it's now the system.

Besides, UCF is claiming a national title. They're not being rewarded one by some serious football organization like Litkenhous when they rewarded UT the 1967 National Title. UCF has been crowned the national champs by some idiot on ESPN named Dan LeBetard and a local newspaper. No legitimate football organization has crowned them national champs. Yes there are sketchy national titles in program's history (such as 1941 Alabama's national title rewarded to them by Houlgate despite their #21 AP ranking), but overall teams earned and were rewarded the national title by legit associations. UCF is acting like a newspaper and an ESPN host is a serious association. The only real association that crowns nat'l champs now is the CFB Playoff Nat'l Title

Seriously?

Yeah seriously. Litkenhaus was older than 90% of the major polls and was credible for over half a century. One of the best polls.

Litkenhous wasn't a poll. You really show your knowledge of its credibility when you don't know what it was.

This just went up on the UCF practice field I drive by on my way to work

NFL to honor undefeated UCF football team during Pro Bowl

The NFL plans to recognize UCF’s 13-0 undefeated football season during the 2018 Pro Bowl at Camping World Stadium Sunday.

Players have been invited to walk out on the field for a celebration after the first quarter.

“When we thought about UCF and the amazing season they had going undefeated and their bowl game win, we thought there was really no better way, especially in the city of Orlando, to do something for that college celebration of football than to honor the UCF team in stadium on Sunday,” said Matt Shapiro, director of events strategy for the NFL.

NFL representatives and UCF had been in talks for weeks about ways to promote the game in the city. The idea originated from the NFL Events team, which first approached UCF with the opportunity, said NFL spokesman Kamran Mumtaz.

The mission of the Pro Bowl is to promote the sport on all levels from youth to pros and NFL representatives wanted a stronger college presence surrounding the event this year.

So the timing could not have been better for UCF’s perfect football season, opening the door for the timely recognition.

While the NFL is saluting the Knights, they won’t be introduced as national champions.

“I think we’re going to focus on their undefeated season,” Shapiro said. “I don’t know that we’re going to get into the business of labeling them national champions. But we’re just excited to honor them and celebrate them.”

Several UCF players are expected to attend the Pro Bowl. Former players Shaquem Griffin, Tre’Quan Smith and Jordan Akins, however, are unlikely to make an appearance. They will compete in the Senior Bowl this weekend in Alabama.

Sunday will likely mark the team’s final moment celebrating last season’s success as players and the new coaching staff, led by Josh Heupel, shift their attention toward the 2018 season.

Which puts them right up there with Auburn, Utah, Boise State, TCU, and Ohio State as teams that were...in the immortal words of Vin Scully "Juuuust a bit outside."

Well, since 2000. I didn't care to go back any further, but there is, of course, the '98 Tulane squad. Rude to not at least mention them here.

Go Vols.

I don't recall the Pro Bowl being played in Opelika, Salt Lake City, Boise, Fort Worth or Columbus the same year those schools you mentioned went undefeated.

If the NFL wanted to recognize those schools in their home town during the Pro Bowl, I'd have no problem with it.

No worries though....UCF is 13 minutes deep into its 15 minutes of fame.

Yeah, I get it. It just tickles me that UCF has taken this thing to a whole new level. And you know...heck, you're there...that a bunch of them really believe they would have been able to beat Oklahoma, Clemson, UGA, and/or Bama.

But the whole "we beat the team that beat the two teams that played for the NC" is laughable. Transitive logic at it's worst.

If you look at their 2018 OOC schedule, it's not set up to help them advance the G5 playoff argument. So if they do manage to run the table again, I guess it's back to DisneyWorld for another trip down Fantasy Lane.

That sounds a lot like Butch Jones!

He wasn't afraid to remind us about the Taxslayer Bowl, Outback Bowl, Battle at Bristol, & Music City Bowl championships be brought to UT.

They beat everyone they played including Auburn. Even the real national champ couldn't beat Auburn.

Congrats. They played only 3 games they had a chance of actually losing all year, their last 3 games of the season, and won them all. The only other P5 team they played, Maryland, went 4-8.

If they wanted a legit national title claim, they need to play a schedule a la Houston in 2016. I don't think steamrolling mediocre or bad teams, in a mediocre conference, all year long and then beating a big name team at the end of the year in a bowl game is good enough for a title.

Alabama played a particularly weak (by their standards) schedule last year, and their resume was still more impressive than UCF's. Not even close.
