UCF vs Auburn

On a fun note: since the CFP started the New Year's 6 series of games in 2014, the guaranteed highest ranked "Group of Five" participant has won 3 out of their 4 total matchups:

In 2014, #20 Boise State (11–2) defeated #10 Arizona (10–3) 38-30 in the Fiesta Bowl.

In 2015, #18 Houston (12–1) defeated #9 Florida State (10-2) 38-24 (it might be worth some note that FSU had to play its 2nd and 3rd string QB; however this was still an impressive win for Houston)

In 2016, #15 Western Michigan (13-0) lost to #8 Wisconsin (10–3) 24-16 in the Cotton Bowl.

And now in 2017, #12 UCF (12–0) defeats #7 Auburn (10–3) 34-27 in the Peach Bowl.

Frost is legit. He was my 1st or second pick for replacement of Butch Jones. Didn't matter because he wasn't going anywhere but home, but he is a great coach. He just has that it factor. Nebraska is about to be relevant again.

People kept saying he didn't beat anyone in a real conference, well he has now. It will be interesting to see what their final rank will be after going 13-0. Should be top or 7 imo

Yes. It's amazing to do that in only two years.

They were 12-1 in 2014. The cupboard wasn't as bare as the ESPNtards would have you believe. 0-12 More a product of aging coach mailing it in and then quitting midseason than lack of talent.

They still wouldn't have been in it. They were #12 in the final rankings going into this game.

Oddly enough, though, their ranking might have somewhat been hindered by two of their games having to be cancelled due to weather (GT being one of them). They could have been as high as 15-0.

Most experts' 8 team playoff would have all 5 Conference Champions, the Group of 5 representative, and 2 wild cards.

The current system sucks when a team that didn't even play in their Conference Championship game gets to play for the National Title. It sucked last year when it was Ohio State, it sucks this year when it's Bama.

Teams like UCF, Memphis, Houston, and Boise will never have the strength of schedule for the pollsters to put them in playoff. It's the Wichita State/Gonzaga effect from basketball. The teams run through their conference, can't get the Blue Bloods to play them OOC, then get penalized for not having a strong OOC SOS.

System is ripe for an antitrust suit sometime in the future.

...and their only loss that year was to a South Carolina team that went 11-2 and finished #4 in the country.

A good coach should be able to do fairly well at a place like Central Florida. I think Frost is a pretty good coach, but he will really be tested at Nebraska. He'll have some structural disadvantages working against him in recruiting.
