Is that legit about the greasing or is it just widely suspected? Also, how blatant of a rule violation is it? I don't know the rule.

It was legit enough that they changed the rules to where your corner man can't do it anymore, now the ref does it after he makes sure the guy is clean.
 
Very blatant. It essentially makes it were someone can't use his Jiu Jitsu skill (BJ) against a wrestler (GSP), because they can't create the friction.

A big way it hurt BJ is trying to pull rubber guard, which he does probably better than anyone. It just isn't working with a greased up back.

Or guard period, hard to hold a guy down that's slippery. Frees up the top guy to raise up and gnp.

Yeah, I can see the obvious advantage to greasing up, I just didn't know how concrete the rule was.
