To me a sucker punch is when the person is not expecting it. After Dormier pushed him, I think he was expecting retaliation.

It's semantics, but it's an important distinction, IMO. Jones may have taken a cheap shot in the heat of the moment, but that's far different from pre-meditating a shot at your opponent when he's not ready.

Guys push all the time at those things, they don't punch. We can agree to disagree, but if someone was holding you and I punched around 2 guys to hit you, you would probably see it differently.

I think what irks me is, if that was Nick or Reem people would have lost their damn minds.

Wrong about what? All I said is that it's not a sucker punch because a sucker punch means he was surprised by it.

You're talking about I "would see it differently", but I have no feelings about it. It's a question of the definition of the phrase, "sucker punch".

An expected punch...that was pretty unexpected. Cheap shot or sucker punch who really cares? It's just arguing to argue.

The question about Nick or Reem? I have no idea what you're asking? You're asking what I would think about it if it were them and not Jones? I would still say it's not a sucker punch. I would agree it could be considered a cheap shot, but also that in the heat of the moment, you just swing and don't necessarily think....

Words mean things. I had no idea what you were talking about, so I looked it up and saw the footage. When I saw it, I wasn't sure that it was what you were talking about because it wasn't a sucker punch. I admitted at the beginning it's semantics, but that it's an important distinction. You could have just accepted that...

I'm back after a long hiatus. Came here first because I like you guys the most. That includes you, huff. Nah, you really are awesome. Jerry though, he's the sh!t. Anyways, I'm back. I haven't kept up with the fights like I could before. My mom passed and things kind of downward spiraled. Got a new place and things are things. So... that's that.

P.S. You're wrong about Jones, Jerry. I don't think it was a sucker punch. This is coming from someone who saw his rise in his first 10 fights and hated the guy. I've actually grown to like him if anything. Outside of Shogun... I hate that division with a passion. Somehow Bones dismantling it has discredited it as being a poor division. So untrue. I'll give credit where credit is due. This isn't douchebag Lebron lying to Cleveland, then Miami and back and forth. The dude owns the ring. He goes one on one and proves every time that he's the best fighter ever.

So... hope everyone is doing well. I'm finally back. You guys could use some more of my drunken rants.

Glad you are back buddy.

I'm the opposite with Jones, was a huge fan early on then he changed. I think he is a jack*** to be honest. I won't deny his greatness, cause he is one of the all time greats...that doesn't change the fact I want to see his face punched in. Lol

I for one enjoy a good TOP rant. :)

Yeah cause mixed martial arts isn't about having discipline at all. Fans and Dana would flip their sh*t if Reem or Nick did that.

Guys push all the time a press conference's and weigh ins, I highly doubt DC expected a punch.

Wording in this situation doesn't really matter, you just like to argue. It's a sickness really. Lol

I feel ya.

I'm the same with Lebron. But again, reverse. I'm the same age as Lebron and actually wore a green ballcap with a golden clover leaf on it in support of him(was a Notre Dame hat but didn't say Notre Dame. Same as Lebron's school colors and logo). As a Pacers fan, I ordered his jersey a few minutes after he was drafted. Even as a rival, I respected him and wanted him to do well. His departure to Miami was gross. Hated him ever since and while dislike him less for burning Miami, I still don't like him and can only laugh that Miami fans are acting even worse than Cleveland fans for him leaving. I used to hate Jones but he's never really done anything for me to hate him so I don't know why. I know why I hated Lesnar, Diaz(plural) and Mayweather. Jones might be an ass, idk. I guess I haven't seen him act out like that though with his comments. Might have missed em if he did, in which case... I'd join you.
