This makes no sense. Nobody in his weight class is in the p4p rankings, and the only guy from his former weight class is new to the sport. You can't be p4p best unless your opponents rank? How about beating 2 different HW champs when it's not your natural weight class? Cool that Islam beat a smaller fighter who ranks, tho

I've gotta wonder if Volk and Usman were both preparing as backups or if they were just chosen to maintain interest? I mean, either way, I'm fine, but on short notice, both will be disadvantaged.

Usman isn't ready. His body just seems to be breaking down in general. Volk probably is ready. He has a fight in early January, so he was probably already ramping up anyway.

But his camp was aimed at his Jan opponent. Know he's well versed in what Makhachev does, but it's still not a full camp dedicated toward him plus it's a couple of months early. Just seems odd that he'd be willing to jump in on such short notice. Admire the anyone/anywhere/any time approach, but this is a tall order even for him.

Islam has to plan for a new guy, too. And Volk is more experienced and probably craftier, so the game planning aspect of the short camp probably favors Volk.

The only thing Volk has to lose is possibly another shot at the LW title, so it's not like it's a huge gamble

True. Just hope at least one of the fights, if not both, live up to expectations. What's gonna be tough is grabbing 294 and having it over by the time we kick off.

Just got around to watching the weigh-ins. You can tell Volk hasn't had a full camp. I'm sure some of his smoothness is due to not having to cut to make weight, but I can't help but question his cardio for this one. If Volk doesn't get him in the first 3 rounds, I don't think he can pull off the upset....well...I'm gonna assume Volk is a rather substantial dog.

The disrespect to Strickland…

I think it was more a case of money than disrespect. Strickland would have drawn more interest than Usman. More eyeballs, more money. Now you can call it stupid and unrealistic to expect him to jump right back into the octagon so quickly, but not disrespect IMO

Ehh star power yes but in terms of the actual fight I was more interested in the co-main (now main event). Stipe is 41 and the last time we saw him he got baptized 2 1/2 years ago.

I thought it was a great matchup. Bones ain't Ngannou and I don't think 41 reflects his fight age. He hasn't taken a ton of damage over the years, especially for a HW and Bones doesn't have KO power in his hands.

Francis got robbed, imo

Judges scored it...
95-94 Francis
96-93 Fury
95-94 Fury

How is did the 1st and 2nd judge have it that different? And Francis knocked him down for a 10-8 in the 3rd round.

I didn't watch but comments are 10:1 he got robbed. I guess we don't need to watch these crossover stunts if they're not gonna let the MMA guy win

Only way he was gonna win was a KO, or maybe a dominant performance. It was pretty close so I it's conceivable that Tyson could have eeked it out, but to my untrained eye Francis won that fight.

Francis never looked like he was in trouble or uncomfortable either, Tyson was knocked down and looked really uncomfortable or seemed worried a couple of times.

Bisping said Francis clearly proved to be the baddest man on the planet. He went toe to toe, and probably won, against arguably the best heavyweight boxer of all time, and if they faced off in MMA Fury would have no chance.

Just finished watching the replay. Ngannou won the fight. Pretty clear Fury took him lightly and didn't expect the plan and discipline Ngannou displayed. Fury got the win, but Ngannou was the winner.
