UGA is last in the SEC in sacks

I think we see the same game plan from Kirby. Send 3 and drop 8 and make us run the ball. Slow the game down, limit down field opportunities, make the O earn every yard and point.
I think so too. Theoretically, UGA has the athletes to take away deep shots and swarm to the ball. We’re going to have to expose HH a little and run it.

I know what you're saying here. But, after watching us torch Bammer for 52 in regulation ... I would do SOMETHING different. I think he will. JMO

Nah I think we see the Pitt model. Bring the house repeatedly and make Hooker uncomfortable.
That entire model works great if you have people that can get to the Qb, which they don't seem to have (10 sacks/dead last in the SEC), especially with Smith out. He was ~1/3 of that number.

Blitzing sets Hyatt, Tillman, and Bru up for 1 on 1, which even if they only win 50%, can be a lot of points quickly, assuming HH is not blind.

It really is pick your poison, and I think that's why they play it safe and invite the dink and dunk and then try to hold us to FGs or even punt by shrinking the field of play.

Our OL has gelled quite a bit since Pitt, so I just don't think their plan works this time. I also think Kirby knows if we get up a score or two in the first half, it negates the crowd.

Just my $0.02

They can drop 8 all they want but that won’t stop Hyatt from turning invisible and then magically re-appearing down field wide open.

We also have the least number of tackles. This is because the defense isn't on the field much.
That might be some of it, but it’sa little shocking that they’ve only got 10 sacks in 8 games; especially since the opponents are almost always playing from behind.

That is a fascinating stat, one thing to note though is they have played less defensive plays than everyone else, presumably because their offense controls the clock. Still their rate of sack per tackle is far lower than ours regardless. 2.6% of their tackles have been sacks, 3.8% of ours have been sacks. I'm interested to see how many TFL they have. With no Nolan Smith, and with how well our offensive line has been playing, I just don't see them getting a lot of pressure on Hooker.

Add in quality of opponents and its even more baffling. They have played the buttocks of the SEC. Their only quality win was an Oregon team that still had the AU version of Bo Nix at Qb.

They might be cocky in their personell like Bama was and not blitz. There is posted film study from some UGA guys and honestly the only effective scheme played against us was Pitt. Bama only hung with us because they have Young not because of defense. LSU played man and did not fair well either. Pitt gambled with
cover 0 a bunch and pressured Hooker. He was vastly less effective than any other game.

It's that our defense gets 3 and outs a lot.

To play devils advocate, I'm assuming that Georgia's opponents are getting less plays and so that means less opportunities for sacks?

Georgia's defense is ranked 13th against the pass and their starting DBs are:
SS Chris Smith (Senior 4-Star)
FS Malaki Starks (#1 Athlete, #4 Nat'l - 247 Composite)
LC Kelee Ringo (#1 CB, #4 Nat'l - 247 Composite)
RC Kamari Lassiter (#18 CB - 247 Composite)

So I'd say teams are choosing to run more than pass on them.... except their run defense is ranked #5.

The good news is that our rushing defense, while overall giving up more yards (743 vs. 684), actually has a lower yards per rush average (2.9 vs. 3.24).

I agree, but out OL play wasn't anywhere close to what it is now. We couldn't run the ball either (35 carries for 95 yards).

The OL has grown leaps and bounds since the Pitt game.

My guess as to why they don’t get many sacks is because they probably don’t blitz much because they don’t need to in order to keep everything in front of them. Play base defense, load the box in obvious run situations and sit back in zone on passing downs. I don’t think any team they’ve played has tested their defense. I expect them to send pressure this week. They will not sit back and let Hooker progress through his reads long enough to hit them deep over and over. Hooker will need to be on his game in reading the defense (which will be hard bc they do a good job disguising their fronts and coverages), hit his hot routes without telegraphing, and know when to take what the defense is giving him whether that means pass, run, sack/throw away. I’ll be surprised if we score more than 40. If our defense plays like they did last week, and uga doesn’t get lucky with horrible Stetson passes getting tipped and going for touchdowns, we might not have to.

So Georgia’s offense is mostly on the field, interesting… I only watched GA Oregon so I guess I didn’t get a true read on it lol… same for UT, not the same team as the start of the season.. GA Oregon game was too lopsided to gauge anything

I was shocked too. I think they just aren't as good tbh.
