give hooker time to throw, hyatt/tilman/mccoy/fant/etc. time to run and throw overtop of the defender... we win

Georgia's defense is ranked 13th against the pass and their starting DBs are:
SS Chris Smith (Senior 4-Star)
FS Malaki Starks (#1 Athlete, #4 Nat'l - 247 Composite)
LC Kelee Ringo (#1 CB, #4 Nat'l - 247 Composite)
RC Kamari Lassiter (#18 CB - 247 Composite)

So I'd say teams are choosing to run more than pass on them.... except their run defense is ranked #5.

The good news is that our rushing defense, while overall giving up more yards (743 vs. 684), actually has a lower yards per rush average (2.9 vs. 3.24).
Starks and Ringo are 5 stars

Not a lot of sacks but they pressure the QB a lot. I don't remember many possessions in their game against FL when AR wasn't being pressured when he dropped back.

If AR made some throws that game was closer. He was eluding their pressure.

UF game showed if you are predictable that UGA will feast. UF loves to run on 3rd and long oddly and it was successful early, but not late. We love to throw deep on 1st down right after converting. Watch for them to do a better job on deep coverage.

Before everyone gets too giddy here, I would like to see their stats on hurries. Could be that they don't commit to the sack but focus a lot more on pressuring the passer rather than running them down.

Yeah, but Georgia's defense is...

2nd nationally in overall team defense (points per game)
4th nationally in yards per game
13th nationally in passing yards per game
4th nationally in rushing yards per game

Don't matter, Vols by fiddy!

It's because the D gets a lot of 3 and outs.

Dawgs are ranked 10th in 3rd down conversions defense with teams converting 32 of 111. SOR 5

Vols are ranked 18th with teams converting 35 of 114. SOR 1. I think we have a slight edge here.

I think Hooker will have to keep the ball some to make Georgia think twice about bringing extra guys. They're going to try and heat him up. Its the only way to slow this offense. Tennessee has had a counter punch to every defense they've played so far this year. They're balanced is the problem defenses have. An you have QB that can take the ball and run. I wouldn't want to try and scheme against that. You almost have to try and get to the QB or you're going to be burnt toast. Too many weapons everywhere.

I think we see the same game plan from Kirby. Send 3 and drop 8 and make us run the ball. Slow the game down, limit down field opportunities, make the O earn every yard and point.

i hope he does that, and I agree with you that he will do that

That is a fascinating stat, one thing to note though is they have played less defensive plays than everyone else, presumably because their offense controls the clock. Still their rate of sack per tackle is far lower than ours regardless. 2.6% of their tackles have been sacks, 3.8% of ours have been sacks. I'm interested to see how many TFL they have. With no Nolan Smith, and with how well our offensive line has been playing, I just don't see them getting a lot of pressure on Hooker.
That would be a good reason if it was true. 7 teams have seen less plays then them include the top ranked d Illinois and they are tied for #12 in team sacks. Georgia also ranks poorly in Tackles for loss at #98.

So you said my reason was correct. They've played less plays than anyone in the SEC, which is why they are last in sacks. They're clearly not a good team with sacks (which is why our sack rate is higher than theirs), but they are 120ish teams that have played more snaps on defense than they have. Their sack rate is 9th in the SEC, which isn't great, but certainly not as bad as what it seems right now. There's 4-5 teams that have like 1 or 2 more sacks despite playing 100-200 more snaps. I think we'll be fine on that front, especially without Nolan Smith

I thought this was interesting for our defense. Bennett gets REALLY sloppy at times during games....if he does against us...its gonna sting.
