UK gets a terrible seed

UK has a great basketball following. UK fans filling the arena for the SEC tourny isnt because of this crappy conference, they fill arenas everywhere. Washington, Hawaii, NY...wherever. If its a neutral court they overwhelm the place.

As for the SEC title games being meaningless....its a game. Importance has nothing to do with going and watching. Considering that your arena is rarely full, I guess you dont understand.

Come on, it's only basketball. We're one of the schools that takes it half-seriously, like Florida and Vandy. I mean, it's cool that you guys had the greatest tradition in the history of white-only men's college basketball, but most fans of every other team in the conference would swap you out in two seconds for Florida State or West Virginia or Pittsburgh or Georgia Tech or about half a dozen other schools. Having you in the conference is only marginally better than having a school with a really good swimming team.

Apparently the fact that UT is always in the top 5 in attendance year in year out means that you guys suck.

As for the SEC tourney, it really does mean very little in the scheme of it all. You can't give a 3 day tourney precedence over an entire body of work during the season. Seeing as how we sucked it up royally outside of Rupp in a horribly mediocre conference for 2 1/2 months, we are seeded correctly. My feelings are known on the UF #2 seed.

UK fans think of football like you guys think of basketball. Half ass'ing it.

Mutual feeling here, too. I'd like to swap UT with UNC or UL. UK lacks a real rivalry where they meet twice a year and compete in the conference. Kind of like the UNC/Duke rivalry. UK doesnt have one. Fla is UK's biggest SEC rival, and Fla hasnt been anything great up until the last 6 or 7 years.

The new coaches polls are out. Fla is a 2 seed but ranked 13 in the country, but UK is now 10th in the country and they get a 4 seed? AND after kicking Fla's azz in the sec title game..

Way to go NCAA, glad we have such experts putting these things together.

Oh the injustice of it all.:lolabove:

UT's top 5 attendance rankings mean squat. Those rankings are based on the amount of people that attend, not the percentage of seats filled. TBA is a very large arena, and even with it 10% empty its still holds more than most in the country.

Allen Fieldhouse only holds about 16 thou, so they dont get a top 5 ranking. But just like Rupp Arena, that place is filled 100% every night. Same goes for the Dean Dome...its packed every game. And if UNC, KU, Duke, or UK would build bigger arenas...they would fill them completely, where UT couldnt. Duke didnt even make the top 25, all because of the small gym they play in. Those rankings mean very little.

Then...why don't they build new arenas? Surely it would be in the school's best interest to make more profit, no?

With wins over UL, Notre Dame, Fla twice, Washington, and UT twice and ranked 10 in the country......most people, sports writers and coaches are shocked. But considering your lack of knowledge of the sport, I'm not surprised in your thoughts.

Yea, look at the unbelievable public outcry over UK getting screwed....oh wait, it's just morons like you.

Exactly. Get out of our conference. You guys are the poor fit with the SEC, not us. The ACC is probably the best fit for you because then you could keep the Music City Bowl tie-in you're so proud of.

Actually most schools should be tearing down their arenas and building high school-sized gyms of maybe 1000 or 2000 seats. Because then they would sell out 100 percent every game and their attendance would be AWESOME.

You're right! The size of the basketball gym and the football STADIUM aren't linked at the hip. There's no good reason why UK couldn't downsize their gym and charge more per seat. Randall Cobb is laughing somewhere.

Lexington is crazy right now with all the debate. Cal and Barnhart want a new arena because Louisville has one, but the city only wants to renovate Rupp, and they are butting heads.

Also, the football facilities are complete trash and almost demand some type of investment, but no one is sure whats going to happen there.

hahaa...yeah!

The last arena that went up was UL's and it was around 250 million.

UK has been talking about building a new one for the last 2 years, but location and money is tougher than you probably think. UK, UNC, Duke and Kansas could fill up football stadiums if games were held in them..

Oh BS...if it wasnt for UK to carry this conference in basketball you'd be forgotten. Up until recently, UK has been the only one in the SEC to win a title. Thats embarrassing considering we're supposed to be a major conference.

By the way...you're school isnt exactly making the SEC proud. Has a month gone by without someone getting arrested, kicked off the team or news of violations in 3 different sports? UT makes the news more than the middle east.

It would be a shame if UK moved out of Rupp Arena into something like the Kentucky Fried Chicken Centre out of some weird obsession with keeping up with little brother Louisville. Why would anyone think that the city would have a dime to spend on a new arena in this economy, when Rupp is right there and perfectly good? Insanity.

Supposedly they are exploring options for the new arena with 80% "private funding". Which means that in the end, corporate goons will push even more of the student section out and inflate ticket prices for the average joe that are already at an unprecedented level.

Sooooooo, again, why don't they do it? Hold a couple of games at the football STADIUM to raise funds for the new arenas to help pay for the struggling football programs?

I'm pretty sure we are top ten in attendance for football and both mens and womens basketball, maybe higher. Supply and demand, 3 out of the four you mention lack the capacity to carry their weight in all three sports.

Note the attendance in Atlanta; nobody else in the conference cares whether we'd be forgotten in basketball. Note the fact that the SEC's TV strategy is based on a network of over-the-air stations designed to get SEC football on broadcast TV in NYC, LA, and other out of region markets, knowing full well that none of those stations will carry our basketball games. The whole conference's strategy revolves around maximizing the brand of SEC football. Basketball is an afterthought, even in the SEC offices.

Thanks for the concern, but our athletic department's fine, thanks. Cleaning house and on the way back. Freshly renovated, outstanding facilities across the board in all sports. Come south if you want to see what some of those look like.

250 million cant be made from selling a few seats. And its too cold in KY during basketball season to hold games in a outdoor arena.

I'm not for the new arena, I like Rupp. The history, the location, its near perfect.

I disagree.
Whoever your coach is next year, one of his selling points in recruiting is TV time and how many games are on ESPN, CBS and how many NBA scouts and national attention is drawn to each game. I dont know what UT's TV schedule was this year, but I guarantee they wouldnt have made national airtime on prime TV like they did when they played UK. Same goes for Florida. If they werent playing UK twice, thats 2 times they wouldnt have been on CBS and zero would be the number of the NBA scouts at the game.

Yeah, that's the killer. You can't pay for a place like that without marginalizing the students. So you get a fantastic new arena, but you reduce your home court advantage because now your students are in the corners and you've got corporate clients down close.

Then you look at a place like Duke, which plays in a bandbox and gives all its best seats along the sides of the court to students, and you think: wow. That's a school that is so rich that they literally don't have to care about ticket revenue at all. Must be nice.

Hmmm, what a quandry. While my beloved Vols flounder in both men's football and basketball we still get out and support. Enough support in fact that we have a new basketball practice facility, a refurbished indoor football facility and a world class weight/training facility on the way. All this with a ninth seeded men's team, a one seeded women's team, albeit the winningest coach ever, and a football team coming off a bowl loss to UNC.

I don't question UK's basketball prowess or history or tradition. It just seems like you're only interested in being GREAT at one sport.
