I disagree.
Whoever your coach is next year, one of his selling points in recruiting is TV time and how many games are on ESPN, CBS and how many NBA scouts and national attention is drawn to each game. I dont know what UT's TV schedule was this year, but I guarantee they wouldnt have made national airtime on prime TV like they did when they played UK. Same goes for Florida. If they werent playing UK twice, thats 2 times they wouldnt have been on CBS and zero would be the number of the NBA scouts at the game.
Funny, I watched several UT games on ESPN in primetime this year when UK wasn't playing. Guess ESPN missed the memo that only UK games count.
But you miss my point. If the NCAA banned the entire conference from playing basketball, most SEC fans would barely notice. Heck, Florida's won two national championships in recent years, and all the Gators I know can barely work up the energy to follow basketball. If there were no SEC basketball games on TV -- at all -- maybe 10 percent of SEC fans would care. I've been watching UT basketball since Bernard King was tearing it up against UK, but I will be the first to admit that I'm in a very small minority. To 11 of the 12 schools in the conference, basketball is a minor diversion between the bowl games and spring football. That's it.
