That says a lot for Penn State fans, back up their team as they should. Their team did not do anything wrong. I would hope and expect UT fans to do the same.

I would agree except coaches are intregal part of the team. I didn't want to sidetrack subject at hand. Just wanted to put n y vote f or them as over the top loyal.

Its even a bit noticeable here but for a different reason. People here have an obsession with wearing merchandise of random US sports teams - 99% don't even know who they are. So at the minute, there are Alabama, Gators and Oregon hats all over the place. Makes me sick. Especially as the people wearing them don't know anything about College football.

I think it was last year before the bama game that a local Knoxville news station did an interview at some restaurant in Maryville where the owner was a huge TN fan, and during the interview this lady working there, who was a waitress, walked up with a bama shirt on. They asked her why she liked AL and not the Vols, and if she was from AL. She said she was from TN, but she liked bama "because they always win don't they"? I swear I can't remember what restaurant it was, but I would NEVER eat at that restaurant. Shame on the owner for even employing somebody like that.

Gotta be Bama.

I'm from East TN, and I have friends I went to high school with whose sole Facebook update each year is some "RTR" garbage after the UT-Alabama game.

And yes, they are everywhere in Middle TN, and starting to encroach on East TN as well.

I always give them the Kitchens test. If they cannot tell me who Freddie Kitchens was, they are either under 21 or not a real fan.
I've asked the same thing to people before. When the majority of them fail, I ask them who their current RB is. 9 out of 10 times, they can't answer that either.

These people will all be flying UT flags on their cars before too long. They have no loyalty and are gonna be huge, huge fans when the Vols start beating the shad outta their teams.

Being a red tide, they come in only when conditions are right and plague everything while they are there. Then they disappear as quickly as they came and leave an utter distaste in everyone's mouths.

Bammer fans need to stay in their trailer park wasteland of a state.

My sister is a bandwagon bammer. She was born and raised in the same household I was.....and we were all Vols. In 2009, she moved to Alabama for 12 months due to her husband's job, and all the sudden came home a "Tide" fan. Made me sick.

I actually don't really speak to her anymore. True story.

That is "dis-owning" grounds in my family.

Probably one of the most common scenarios. Most of these type fans will never be loyal to any team unless they are winning championships.

I actually see a lot of Man U stuff over here and I would guess that half the people wearing it don't know what sport that team even plays. Is it as bad in Europe?

Great post. Seriously, who does this? It's one thing if you are 8 years old and do not know any better, but we're talking adults jumping on the bandwagon. The teams you named are perfect. It makes me sick.

See it all the time here in St. Louis Cardinals country. Honestly, some people don't start wearing Cards gear unless they make the MLB playoffs. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of their front-running fans are wondering why Albert Pujols hasn't seen action yet in the World Series.

Tell me about it one of my best friends is a so called bama fan. I never heard him say nothing about bama back in the day. Now that their winning that's all I hear. I told him last nite there is no way your coming to the house to watch the gm. Hell will freeze over before someone comes to my house and cheers against my Vols. GO VOLS!

Alabama is the ultimate bandwagon fan base. Since they won the first championship with Saban, Bama fans are everywhere in Memphis.

You arent kiddin brother. I know poeple that are alums of Memphis that have never even been to a tiger football game. Not that there is much to see at one but for petes sake they graduated from there.

These same people are alabubba football fans and tiger basketball fans. When hoops season rolls around and they are wearing thier u of m gear i say. "I thouht yall were bama fans?"

Their reply "thats only in football. I graduated from memphis."

See it all the time over here.

It all depends on who is winning at the moment. I don't think it matters what team, it's the flip-flopping nature of the individual. I'm pretty sure all loyal fans, no matter who they pull for, wish that the flip-floppers would take an interest in soccer and go away.
