I am obviously a Huge Duke fan. However, I really feel for the Carolina fans for having to endure Roy as their coach. I know he has won a great deal and even a NC, But has there ever been a coach that has achieved so little with so much? He did it at Kansas and now he's doing it at Carolina. I love his antics and personality but I really look forward to the day when Tarheel basketball is consistently good again.

feel like we've had this discussion on the board before but this is such a strange notion to me.

You guys never have a down year, do you? Honestly, the only one I can remember was '95 (I think). The year K was out with "back troubles," or whatever it was.

They left 26 (27 when you add in the lane violation) points off the board in a game they lost by 3. Simply increasing their FT% to 67% for the game and they win by 7. It happens.

Sorry, I shouldn't have had such a mocking tone towards you in my other post. Anyhow, you're right: the team only stands to get much better. Even so, provided our entire starting lineup isn't injured, we should never lose to a team like Belmont. I know they're good and well-coached, but we recruit at a level that Belmont simply can't. Heck, even our "Blue Teamers" should beat them.

We've had years that it sure felt like we were down. We've also had some very disappointing tournament runs (or lack thereof). But Coach K has been pretty consistent over the years. If we don't shoot well it makes for a long night sometimes as our offense is predicated on knocking down the three with regularity. I'm terrified at the prospect of losing Coach K though. His "disciples" in the coaching ranks have never fared too well.

I've only been on for a few months so I wouldn't know. I love Izzo by the way. I think he's a great coach.

That is true regarding the tourney. While you all have had much more consistent seasons, we have tended to fair better come tourney time as of late. Yes, we went out in the 2nd round last year, but my god, we were playing a 1 seed Kansas in what essentially amounted to a home game for them. Think the NCAA likes that UNC-KU matchup much? ha! Anyhow, are you a Panthers fan? Seems like you might have some background in the Carolinas judging from your team likes. Big game tonight.

I have to agree with the duke fan (shocking as it may be) but basketball is always better when schools like unc are good. I look forward to games against the other historically good programs.

At least it's actually happening again this year, but that UNC v. UK game just got a lot less interesting. It's not enough that they had to move it to the Saturday after the conference fball championship games, but my team also has to suck to high-heaven! That first Saturday in December used to be my favorite sports day (my veritable Super Bowl Sunday): UNC v. UK at noon on CBS, then conference title fball games all afternoon and night.

I disagree. I think that you may have both your stars back by then. They will also have something to prove against an upstart UK squad.

I'm still surprised PJ is on the team the way he's acted.

Either way, hope both teams can provide a good game.

Grew up mostly in Virginia and North Carolina. Liked Duke from early on as you HAVE to pick a basketball team growing up in ACC country. Used to go watch Clemson play a lot growing up. Sadly not much of a Panthers fan. I actually have been a Denver fan from the time Elway started playing there. Great to have Peyton now. I'm from right outside of Hickory, a little town called Newton/Conover. How about you?

I somehow have been in NC for 22 years and have not picked a side.

Preciate the izzo compliment.

You, sir, have my respect. You are an honest to God Duke fan.

I appreciate your respect, I respect your UNC fandom as well. However, I hope I don't offend you over the course of the season, because even though I have great respect for the rivaly and UNC, I am a complete dick. I will try to keep it under wraps as you are a good guy and so are some other UNC fans on here. As I said, it is better when UNC is good, but I also take pleasure in the Belmont loss and most likely the beating Louisville will give you guys. Every bad quality inside of me comes out for 2 hours in February and March. The rivalry that exists between Duke and UNC is second to none. I've honestly never witnessed or participated in anything greater in the sports world. That's why I want you all to be good. For some perspective for those not familiar... Imagine UT late 90's vs. Bama currently, except the 2 universities were 8 miles apart. I realize football is not basketball, but around here it is.

All of this said, I hope nobody makes the mistake of thinking that the University of Tennessee Volunteers are not my primary sports passion. I am incredibly excited about the direction we are headed on many fronts, especially the way we are headed under Coach Jones. I'm ready for us to take care of business Saturday at 7.

UNC is heading the same path as UK under Tubby...still winning a lot of games, but not good enough do bring in the biggest recruiting classes or the hardware.

I'm not sure about that. I was convinced that K was on his way out when Harrison Barnes Skyped his commitment to UNC and ripped Duke's heart out, fresh off of a National Title. Duke won the Title 6 months later and then has dominated UNC of late. The recent commits of Okafor, Jones and Winslow are huge for the twilight of Coack K's career. We'll see where this goes I guess.

Not really sure about this. Roy is a pretty good coach.

I'm not gonna spend the time to compare, but I would guess UNC under Roy has recruited better than Tubby did.

Roy has won 2 titles at UNC and gotten them to 4 final fours in 10 years. Pretty good. I don't think they'll be "down" for to long. Tubby could never get us back to the big one after taking us his first year.

I be damned if we didn't bounce back with a win against Louisville today. Something tells me this is going to be a roller coaster season for the Heels.
