Where my Chicken Littles?

In the words of Andy Griffith acting Shakespeare, "I'm right 'chere!" You have to admit, that was a bad loss to Belmont. Anyhow, we'll see how the season plays out. I'll admit that I was rough on Roy in a time of emotional distress.

Again. If you put a team of All-Stars in a game against fundamentally sound scrubs, and the All-Stars go 22-48 at the foul line, the scrubs stand a good chance of winning. Meeks and Johnson are the keys to this season, IMO. (I don't include McDonald and/or Hairston returning because who knows if either will, but getting either/both back would of course be huge.) If Meeks and Johnson can be effective scoring options and not get worn out or abused on defense, this will be a formidable team. Not a national title contender, but a solid team. If Paige has to continue playing off the ball and continue being the primary scorer, Meeks's passing ability may become an even bigger asset.

Solid post. Yeah, Meeks can really help out in transition, and Johnson has surprised me with his play so far this year. I'm still waiting on James and Tokoto to come around. Don't know if they will or not though. It's weird: James really played well the first 10 or so games as a freshman, before his injury. He hasn't looked the same since.

Joel James looks to be in a ton better shape, and Brice Johnson has put on some nice size. UNC's bigs look very good...if they can get some contribution from their guards outside of Paige, they can be dangerous. I was very impressed with Meeks in the UofL game. This team could make a run come March.

Only thing I take issue with is the (perhaps unintentional) characterization of Belmont as scrubs. They went 26-7 last year and won the OVC. The year before they went 27-8 and won the Atlantic Sun. UNC lost to a fundamentally sound, well coached team. While not as athletic as UNC, scrubs they are not.

Absolutely. Belmont is a solid, mid-major program. Scrubs was a generalization about lesser teams beating better teams when the better team, in this instance Carolina, fails to do the little things like make an acceptable percentage of their free throws. Belmont hasn't made the tourney the past few years on accident. They know how to play.

They don't look like the team that beat Pitino tonight...

Nope. They will be up-and-down all year. This loss hurts, but when you have only one guy that's a playmaker, what can you expect?

Unfortunately, I have my doubts about Hairston and McDonald ever being back. After looking weak in their addressing of other schools, I think the NCAA is tying to flex their buttholes now. Look tough.

On another slightly related note, and this is for my Duke brethren on this board, the day I see Duke schedule an away game like this, I'll die. In other words, I'll live long and prosper.

Happy for Jerod though. Maybe he'll earn the keys to the thrown one day. It still has a long way to go though, but he's one to watch.

Love the effort tonight. Out-roughed and out-toughed one of the toughest teams in the country. On the road.

Make sure you guys tune in to see UNC squeak by UNC-Greensboro in double OT on Saturday and then beat UK by double digits in the next game. Most Jekyll and Hyde team I've ever seen.

Yeah. It's been crazy so far, but that's how it goes with inexperienced freshmen and sophomores, I guess. I'm not holding my breath about it, but it would make a world of difference to get Hairston or McDonald back. Britt and Paige are logging too many minutes, plus some extra perimeter shooting would be nice.

@jadamlucas: Roy W is 7-0 vs Michigan State at UNC and has beaten them at home, on the road, in the Final Four, in the title game and on a boat.

On a damn boat. Not many who can say that.

As long as we're playing top 5 teams, we should be good. In fact, I wish the rest of our schedule was against top 5 teams.

I think McDonald comes back mid-season and Hairston never, but had they been here all along, we'd be undefeated and top 5 or 6 at the moment at worst. Roy has said repeatedly to media sources that Hairston is the best guard/wing he has had in all his years of coaching (per practices this year). Oh well!

Izzo to Roy is like Donovan to Tennessee. Makes no sense at all but it continues to happen lol

I could seriously see this happening. Talk about either playing down to your competition or just playing out of this world against good teams.

Bump, just because I'm feeling brash and sassy today. After we lose to UNC-G, not so much.
