I'd would love both Paulus and Jones (real shock there). At 6'4 Jones could obviously be a hell of an assest to our quaterbacks.

Jones should be an easy sell. Come on. Stay at UNC and pray that you will outshine a second-rate football program with coaching uncertainty, or head across the state line to Wide Reciever U, where you'll have a top-rated quarterback pitching you strikes in front of 106,000+ and plenty of media attention. Plus, he got to witness Bama gameday firsthand??? Get out of here.

I understand the idea of riding the bench for UNC's basketball team also appeals to Jones.

I saw him and told him he would look good landing on a checkerboard endzone.:)

Paulus is a serious prospect for us at this point too. Although (I know his star ranking is higher, but that means vrey little) I do not think he is better than Coleman. It would create competition though and you can never have too many talented players.

You never know just when and how bad a guy wants back into coaching. I think all bets were officially off as to where coaches would and wouldn't go once Steve Spurrier took the SC job.

this is where you'll find out how serious UNC is about having a credible football program that isn't behind BBall, soccer, lacrosse etc...GAVol is right...are they going to open up the check book like they have for bball?

Bill Walsh to Stanford did it for me.

If they don't, they will have squandered a marvelous opportunity.

If Butch Davis loses his mind and takes that job, this thread is completely moot.

The only time in my recent memory that Carlina had anything other than disappointment or mediocre 7-4 seasons, was with Mack Brown. Once he proved he could win there he longhorned. I'd say they pull out the checkbook.

yeah, but at this point, as bad as SC has been historically, that's still a better job than UNC. Until UNC makes a serious committment to really have a top notch football program....UNC won't be a desriable position.

and UNC really has no reason not be good in football. they have good facilities, the campus is great, a huge alumni association, money etc....the pcs are all there....they have just not put it together for the long haul.

exactly...Hal Mummie, Guy Morris, etc, etc, etc....they go that route in Chapel Hill...they get what they deserve.

UNC has a good crop of young guys in the stable...they red shirted every freshman they signed last year. why i don't know...but they got a little talent back there waiting in the wings. they'll play like a young team, but if they get a good coach, and keep some of the guys that are comitted right now...UNC has enough talent to compete for the next 3-4 years.

whoever gets that job won't be walking in to a talent void.

Hire a really good coach and keep him there. in 5-6 years, UNC could be in the top 1/4 of the ACC.

IMO Paulus is much better than Coleman.

The Vols talked to Paulus long before Coleman came into the picture. I recall that Paulus committed to Carolina before the Vols recruited Coleman.

Paulus is actually pretty raw. He is a big strong kid with a strong arm. He has not started very long in hish school and is not an extremely accurate passer. He is also not near as mobile as Coleman. If I was taking bets right now I would bet that Coleman turns out to be a better college QB than Paulus. Paulus was kind of like a preseason football poll, he got early recognition based on his name recognition. I am not saying he is no good, he is a big strong kid with a big arm. Coleman is a better all-around QB than Paulus right now.

Im a UNC grad and talking to fellow alumni. Butch Davis will be smart and see other openings at the end of the season. Some coaches like Rich Rodriquez, West Virginia, will use an interview to get a pay increase from his 800k.

The AD is already in the hotseat for his previous hires. 3 of his 4 hires have resulted in firings: Torbush and Bunting in football and daugherty in bball. His only good hire is Roy williams. He is on a very short leash with alumni.

My guess is UNC will fork out the money to save them from further embarrassment.

If Vinson pans out and Kirkendoll commits, I think UT will be fine at receiver. The QB situation seems to be stable at this point as well. I would be much more excited if these were defensive tackles and ends UT was pursuing.

As far as the QB situation goes, from what I am hearing, and after what I saw in the first half of the Alabama game, it is time to incorporate Crompton into the offense ala Tim Tebow at Florida. I am not suggesting they use him in the same way, but I would like to see some involvement.

If Ainge's ego can't handle it, then he needs to grow up.

Where the heck did that come from Lex? Ainge is widely considered to be among the top five QBs in the nation. He's showing the leadership and patience one wants from the position. And now you want to start situation substitution at quarterback....

You puttin' Kentucky bourbon in your coffee again??

**Looks like the quotes function is screwy this morning too...
