1) Is UGA more talented? Yup

2) Were they absolutely dialed in for this game? Absolutely they were!

3) Did they take Tennessee seriously? They blitzed against our silent count the entire game. They tried to run time down and not risk turnovers with a lead. (Zero passing)
This isn't "letting your foot off the gas". This is smart football given your opponent and their capabilities. YES- UGA took us seriously.

4) UGA on a dry field at home still had an advantage in talent as well as the crowd noise. But the next time we meet them it will not be a home game for them this season.

We may not win round 2, but one bad half of football during our first go around shouldn't have you thinking we don't even belong on the field with them.

Hooker had a "bad game "?
Have ANY of you ever tried to throw a WET football against a super talented defense while them knowing when you would snap the ball?? Take the emotion out of it and look at circumstances for what they are.
CJ Stroud threw for 79 yards against Northwestern. Guess what? IT WAS IN THE SNOW🙄. Damn he must suck....

Credit to UGAs defense for using everything at their disposal.
Credit to Tennessee defense for stopping Georgia the entire 2nd half.

Keep the main, the main thing.
They scored 27 because that is all they could score given the conditions. Do you really think Kirby wasn't doing what he needed to do with his strategy?

Yeah, totally agree with you.

Our defense actually did pretty well Saturday, considering the talent of the opponent. Not great, but pretty well. The Dawgs would have scored 50 if they could. 40 if they could. 30 if they could. They couldn't. So hats off to the lads who kept the game within reach.

Our offense just got beat. It happens. Lads have bad days. Coaches have bad days. And the other team, they sometimes have really good days.

I do think it will be much closer when we see them again in the playoffs. I'm not saying we'll win, but I am saying it will be a helluva better game the second go-round.

Go Vols!

Agreed!
Add to that, the lights of the big stage, the massive media coverage all week, number one ranking! All of that got in everyone's heads. Just too much pressure.

Georgia has been able to focus on this game for awhile. Schedule matters. Tennessee has has to gear up and lay it all out there for LSU and Alabama and, to a lesser extent Florida and Kentucky. Georgia has been looking at the Tennessee game since September.

It's hard to get up and play your best every single week. Georgia could slack off against Kent State and Missouri (and they did) without suffering a loss. They've had to really gear up for exactly one game this season.

Hooker did have a bad game. He’s human, it was bound to happen eventually. Missed deep throws he’s been hitting all year and he needs to learn what a throw away is badly. But good post.
The results were bad. The stats were bad.

But people have to take into account the weather and crowd noise.
They can't just say "Hendon sucked that game!"

Heisman front runner CJ Stroud threw for 79 freaking yards against lameass Northwestern.
I encourage people to watch those highlights and then ask themselves if Hooker wasn't dealing with similar variables and against the BEST DEFENSE in college football while doing it.

Hendon Hooker is a warrior!

People are absolutely unbelievable...

And they had the coaching and talent to execute.

Tennessee is a really good team.
UGA are the defending National Champions with one of the most balanced teams in the country. And we played them at their house.

This utter stupidity i keep seeing from so many irrational Vol fans sickens me.

The better team won, but people act like we had no business even being on the field with them.
- connect with Hyatt it's 10-0
- we drive instead of throwing a deep ball to out of position Tillman and the game is possibly 21-13 going in the half.

Heupel had no outlet RB to throw too after Small went down. Wright is not sure handed.
That really changed how we could adjust to that blitz.

I think UGA is deeper and was better coached Saturday.
I also still believe Tennessee is exactly the type of team that can beat UGA.

Watch SECCG in 2021
Baylor in 2020
LSU in 2019

Agreed that Hooker is a warrior and gave maximum effort but, he did not have his typical accuracy. Was it the dawg D, the crowd noise, he tightened up in a huge game, or some of all the above? All his long throws this year haven’t been perfect passes as he’s under thrown several but the receivers were so far behind the D that they still scored? I didn’t see any of our receivers running wide open in this game

Georgia showed the SEC the template for shutting Tennessee's offense down. Georgia could have scored as many as they wanted against our defense, Kirby went conservative in the 2nd half during the rain so they could maintain their lead and not turn the ball over.

Thank you for this thread and putting it into perspective. I am so tired of the "letting the foot off the gas" comment. Kirby would have scored more if he could. And ALL SMART coaches slow the game down against this offense - because when it is clicking it can score a lot very quickly.

The conspiracy part of me is like, CJH let Smart show his hand, knowing that the probability of us making the playoffs are pretty high. He will make needed adjustments and be ready for the rematch. I forget what year it was, but when Bama-LSU played twice. First game, LSU won, second game Bama had an entirely different offensive scheme.

They went conservative because Door Dash Bennett is their QB. He's turnover prone.. Smart took the percentages and played it right. Vols took what they were doing away in the second half ,but it was conservative because they could afford to be.. They'll get in a game where Bennett will actually have to make plays to win and that's when they'll lose..

This is what UGA wants folks to think. I can't believe OUR FANS are pushing this narrative rather than realizing OUR DEFNESE literally shut them down in the second half.

Do you really think that Bama and Kentucky would not have did the same thing IF they thought they could do it effectively? Do you really think that our coaching staff is not going to learn from this and adjust and BURN the next team that tries it?

We are a good team, maybe even a great team and it amazes me that some of our fans still act like we are the team of the last 10 years. We are not that team.

So they took it easy on us, but scored 55 on Vandy?

It isn’t Hooker’s inaccuracy that have me saying he had a bad game. He held the ball way too long way too often. Very uncharacteristic. If nobody is open he has to throw the ball away or start running. He had adequate time on most of the plays that he was sacked

Look, Kirby wasn't going to expose their offense to any turnovers in the 2nd half. It was raining and he knew that 3 touchdowns was enough to beat them. They could have scored much more if they wanted. Tennessee could not stop them in the 1st half, and Tennessee couldn't do anything against Georgia's defense all day. In fact Tennessee scored fewer point this year than last year against them. This doesn't mean Tennessee isn't a good team, the Vols weren't ready for Georgia, and it showed all over the field. Georgia did in fact show how to beat Tennessee's offense and they did it pretty efficiently, nobody can deny that. They have the players and talent to do it, a of of teams dont. You are right, Heupel will need to adjust his offense to overcome what Georgia did. SEC teams are not sleeping on Tennessee and all of them watched and learned what the Dawgs did.

Tennessee needs to win out, cannot sleep on Missouri or SC.
