Understand what actually happened

Another thing they did was all the defensive shifting. With a silent count, you're looking for the snap while the guy you're blocking shifts over and you're looking at a different lineman...but, you're looking...not a the ball. Is this the eye discipline coaches always talk about?

I agree, but scheme is very important as well, Kirby dialed it up pretty damn good
He blitzed every play and our plan of having hooker in the pocket in statue mode camoflaged as if the Georgia defense is a T. rex that can’t see you if you don’t move—didn’t work.

Heupel going to have hooker on the roll outs this weekend and attacking the perimeter specifically to start prepping for Georgia. If I don’t see at least 10 roll outs and perimeter attack from Hooker than I will admit I don’t know football.

I'm honestly not sure this hurry up gimmicky offense of JH's is the answer. RECRUIT studs at RB, OL, TE and DEFENSE.

Didn't seem to work worth a crap this past Saturday against a team that just put 15 players in the NFL.

I think Heupel may end up having to tweak his offense somewhat when he gets into these types of games. A powerback that can get a few tough yards could help. It all started with the push up the middle. That's how you slow this offense.
We need to get more running back talent period. One position along with DB that is short on depth and talent. Keep hearing folks squawking about screen passes. When Small went out early, that was off the table. Wright does not have good hands and the coaches don’t trust throwing to him. And you are correct about the push up the middle. Carter’s return made a huge difference for Georgia. UT couldn’t block him.

We got squashed like a bug. The game wasn’t as close as the final score indicated. It felt like a 42-7 whitewashing of our beloved VOLS.

Fortunately, we’ll benefit from the scoreboard total when playoff picks come around.

We aren’t scared of UGA, and the team, and fans alike would welcome a rematch in the CFP. Here’s hoping that happens, and we get a chance to atone for our whoopin.

Georgia showed the SEC the template for shutting Tennessee's offense down. Georgia could have scored as many as they wanted against our defense, Kirby went conservative in the 2nd half during the rain so they could maintain their lead and not turn the ball over.

Yes, the template is having a defense stocked with athletes that can run with our scheme in man coverage, and when they're not running with our guys they're running right at our QB unblocked.

This isn't to say that we can't draw up something different to counter this, but we were simply outmatched on Saturday.

The conspiracy part of me is like, CJH let Smart show his hand, knowing that the probability of us making the playoffs are pretty high. He will make needed adjustments and be ready for the rematch. I forget what year it was, but when Bama-LSU played twice. First game, LSU won, second game Bama had an entirely different offensive scheme.

I remember that. Same happened with UGA and Bama last year.

Ah, is that why Bennett completed bombs and Hooker overthrew his.
If Bennett was throwing against Georgia's secondary and Hooker was throwing against Tennessee's secondary the completed bombs would have been reversed.

They scored 27 because that is all they needed to win. They could have scored much more if they needed to.
This is true. Like it or not. They executed their game plan to perfection. Us, not so much. We are getting close and need to maximize recruiting the next few years and we will get closer if not better than the mutts. For now, we are on our way and just not quite there yet.

Vols must finish business. No letdowns against Mizzou. if we stumble against mizz it really puts a damper on a fantastic season.

Is Small generally considered a better pass blocker/receiving option than Wright? I wonder how much of a game changer his injury was.

Yes. Small is definitely a better pass blocker, and a little better receiver. Small’s father and uncles all played WR in the SEC, so that part makes sense.

However, when it comes to running the ball I think Wright has passed Small without a doubt. He would be the #1 back if his pass blocking and ability to hold on to to ball were a little better.

1) Is UGA more talented? Yup

2) Were they absolutely dialed in for this game? Absolutely they were!

3) Did they take Tennessee seriously? They blitzed against our silent count the entire game. They tried to run time down and not risk turnovers with a lead. (Zero passing)
This isn't "letting your foot off the gas". This is smart football given your opponent and their capabilities. YES- UGA took us seriously.

4) UGA on a dry field at home still had an advantage in talent as well as the crowd noise. But the next time we meet them it will not be a home game for them this season.

We may not win round 2, but one bad half of football during our first go around shouldn't have you thinking we don't even belong on the field with them.

Hooker had a "bad game "?
Have ANY of you ever tried to throw a WET football against a super talented defense while them knowing when you would snap the ball?? Take the emotion out of it and look at circumstances for what they are.
CJ Stroud threw for 79 yards against Northwestern. Guess what? IT WAS IN THE SNOW🙄. Damn he must suck....

Credit to UGAs defense for using everything at their disposal.
Credit to Tennessee defense for stopping Georgia the entire 2nd half.

Keep the main, the main thing.
They scored 27 because that is all they could score given the conditions. Do you really think Kirby wasn't doing what he needed to do with his strategy?
Hooker did have a bad game. Held on to the ball way too long all game. Was scared to take a chance and make a tough throw. He’s had easy wide open throws most of the year. The interception in the end zone was a forced pass. Wasn’t any need in forcing it at that time. If you are gonna force it that has to be a back shoulder pass. Can he make those throws? Idk. He was just tight all night.

They’ve been doing that for a few years. No way we should’ve been unprepared for that.

The results were bad. The stats were bad.

But people have to take into account the weather and crowd noise.
They can't just say "Hendon sucked that game!"

Heisman front runner CJ Stroud threw for 79 freaking yards against lameass Northwestern.
I encourage people to watch those highlights and then ask themselves if Hooker wasn't dealing with similar variables and against the BEST DEFENSE in college football while doing it.

Hendon Hooker is a warrior!

People are absolutely unbelievable...

Shroud's schedule is a joke

They gave us the underneath stuff. We wanted more though. If we have to play them again, which would be great, take what they give you. It will require discipline to not go deep...but we had everything we wanted under 7 yds.

They went conservative because Door Dash Bennett is their QB. He's turnover prone.. Smart took the percentages and played it right. Vols took what they were doing away in the second half ,but it was conservative because they could afford to be.. They'll get in a game where Bennett will actually have to make plays to win and that's when they'll lose..
I like this. Bennet can have his share of f… ups. Coach lock jaw secured the win with his head.
