Undisciplined...

This is very true.... Disciplined vs undisciplined is what goes on between the goal posts....And I'm 67 and became a UT fan at birth....This team ranks up there being very undisciplined.....Between the goal posts.
Discipline is much more than what goes on between the goals. It is a culture and life that permeates every aspect in and around the team, players, coaches, staff. It involves actions and attitude in training room, training table, film room, sidelines, classroom, dorm room, appearance, language. This life discipline will impact what happens between the goals.

How about Heup. Shouldn't he be setting the tone for the team... leading by example? How about...
- dropping a few pounds
- shaving
- taking the gum out when addressing the press
- upgrading the game wear

These are not my original thoughts but I have to agree.
It’s f****** football not a fashion show…good lord!!

I'm very supportive of Heupel but the optics post game were not good. He represents the program on and off the field. It doesn't need to be pin point cotton and silk tie. Just be disciplined and sharp.

Compare his post-game presser and Monday presser. Mondays was much better. Post-game his shirt looked like Fashion by Omar the Tent Maker. He chomped gum nervously. Had a shadow. Monday he had a well-fit shirt, clean shave, no gum... he looked like a football coach.

I'm not close to the program so I don't see day-to-day but I do know little details make a big difference.

Are you really criticizing his physical appearance at a midnight press conf immediately following a loss in Gainesville? We're really scraping the bottom here boys

The topic of this thread is "discipline". Yes, I'm suggesting I see a lack of disciple.

Discipline is developed by doing every little thing with excellence. Disciple is most evident when a person is tired and beat down. A lack of disciple at these times shows weakness. Conversely, showing discipline at these times shows strength.

Heupel showing up unshaven, bag for a shirt, chomping on gum are outward signs to me of lack of discipline. Everyone has an opinion.

A lot of studies have been done on the topic, in business and sport. The Japanese tend to excel. Just do a search on "develop discipline sport".

I like Heup. I'm supportive of Heup. Just saying I see a lack of discipline on this team and it starts with everyone in the program doing every little thing with excellence.

Heupel has never been a snazzy dresser. I believe I referred to him as a "slob" when I'd heard we hired him and I reviewed some of his interviews on YouTube. Yeah, the gum was a bit much, but I suspect he was really agitated over what he had just endured and needed to channel some energy away from his anger. These guys aren't fashion plates. They're football coaches.

I think we may be conflating ‘discipline’ as in behavioral, you need a time out/ you are in the sideline vs ‘discipline’… jumping off sides, not tackling correctly, not getting off the field 😂… but I can see both applications being used lol…on vs off the field.. but they probably bleed over on each other…I may be Pollyanna about it.. but surely this is something that can be fixed..maybe instead of missing games (as that seems to assure automatic losses) make folks do something else like community service, extra study hours, etc? Thinking like a mom here 😂, but also someone who understands that we probably don’t have the depth to be doing that (making people sit out), and probably shouldn’t unless the SEC says to do so 😂 just make them do something else they don’t want to do

Shave and wardrobe change is now required for all UT coaches before giving any post game interviews.

It's very very hard to motivate people to perform at the level they need to here. It takes a lot of psychology and emotion and frankly manipulation. It would be great, I think, if you could be an extremely elite success in only one area while being mentally asleep in a bunch of others, but it's not really that easy.

Alright Vol Nation. What do you want? You say the team is undiscplined, yet when coach disciplines players and you don't even know it then what do you say? We missed the playoffs last year because of coach disciplining a player. We had O-line problems last Saturday...Well...lookey here..Mincy was not allowed to play on the line. Hmmm ....We don't have the depth. Had he let Banks play last year, we would have won and been thugball team. What is coach supposed to do?? Kids gonna be kids. Looks to me like he does what the fans would say he should, but sacrifices games because it, so maybe you want us to play thugball!
Undisciplined?

Were they Jay Norvell's original thoughts?

We have depth, Cooper was injured, Mincey suspended, we were on our third string (and only remaining!) center. Or are you saying its typical to go 4 and 5 deep? Can you explain how that works with an 85 player limit to schollies?

If Mincey isn't stupid enough to smoke a jay on the corner of Cumberland and Henley (only the most visible corner in Knoxville!), then we aren't having this conversation.

My bad...Lane is second string center, just played like ****. If I am not mistaken though, Mincey has taken snaps at center before but ICBW

I think he's handled it right. You cannot judge by short term results. A commitment to good values usually has a short term cost but long term benefit.

The coach looking like a bum, the players playing like bums, maybe there's a connection. Maybe if our coach would take a bit more pride in his appearance it would rub off on the players to play with more pride in their games. Pride spreads to others around you.
