Unfair to Milton

I watched a lot of football yesterday and only saw one QB who played better than Milton. That being said, I still think he needs to play better for us to win the East. I think he can and I think he will
The former Clemson QB at Oregon state? I hope DODO watched it to cry over what he lost!

Milton will be/is a great QB!

He skipped one off the turf in front of the receiver and I instinctually called it an “Incrompletion.” Crompton hasn't been here in years. Old habits die hard.

He played fine. I was wanting to see how he did running the offense, if they could keep the pace they had last year, and for the most part they did. He had one bad throw that I remember, to Bru over the middle that could have been picked off, but that was it. For comparison, guys like Drake who could a lot of hype threw interceptions this week.

Anybody hammering on Milton after a 70% completion rate is silly. Milton had a great game and made good decisions for the most part. He hit some beautiful slants and some touch throws that he didn’t know how to make in 2021z

Probably should have had one of his throws picked, but we got lucky.

The throw to Keyton early in Q1 should have been caught. If anything, he is guilty of more underthrows than overthrows in this game.

Watching football all weekend and paying attention to the throws from other qb's you notice there are lots of missed and overthrown during a game. Because of the way he started in 20 everyone makes a big deal. I watched the Pitt game from last year, not just the hilights and Hooker overthrew an open reciever the first series. The difference between Hooker that game and the Bama game is drastic. Milton has an overthrow though and it's overthrow Joe. Pay attention to the other qb's. They all throw bad passes.
We went 4 straight offensive possessions and didn't even have but one 1st down after our first acore.

It's not just the over throws. There were a few times he should have kept the football on the read option instead of letting the RB get creamed.

Let Joe prove everybody wrong across the season. Babying him is not the answer ✅

He had 4 or 5 bad throws. 2 hit UVA in the hands. Everyone has bad throws tho. Watch any NFL game and you’ll see a few bad throws.

If Keyton caught that 60 yarder from Milton he’d already be getting heisman hype. I’m actually OK with a little under the radar. Efficient win efficient day for Milton and D was awesome! I was impressed when comparing Milton’s age/maturity to other QBs in league. He seems more dialed in compared to a couple years ago. Yes he misfired some…they cynic in me thinks JH did a little crash Davis/Nuke Laloosh and told him to over throw 3 balls to keep everyone guessing ??? Not really but think we didn’t show a ton of stuff vs uva.

I was thinking the same thing. Had Keyton pulled in that bomb, people would have been more lenient. Joe isn’t perfect, but so far so good.

I'm not feeling the vibe near what it was when Hooker got the job after he got injured. Milton wasn't accurate then, however I was watching for it and didn't see anything out of the ordinary that (as someone said) other quarterbacks are doing. Even Bryce Young had a bad throw every now and then. Keyton's drop wasn't on Milton, he had the ball where it should have been. Looks like Keyton studder stepped to alter speed, and it was just enough to break his concentration.

He needs to calm down early!! Show up earlier!!

Say what you want about Milton, but I can guarantee you his is every coach that we play against biggest nightmare.
Imagine game planning against him.

Joe played well. It’s rare, regardless of opponent, that a QB doesn’t have a couple of miscues or a bad series or two. Heupel and Halzle will continue to put him in situations conducive to his strengths and add to that assuming Joe continues to grow and get better through the season as Hooker did. I’m not all that worried about the wheels coming off.

I think he played alright but he's going to have to hit the majority of the deep and intermediate passes in the future to keep the defense honest. They're going to start biting up on runs and screens and make him beat them deep......and Keyton needs to catch the ball when they get there

I noticed in the UVA game that they played their defensive backs deep which allowed us to average 10 yards a run. We did not get that with Hooker. Our fans are just plan ignorant sometimes. Running the ball and hitting the short passes as Milton did will allow us to control the clock better and keep
our defense off the field. And if the defense wants to pull up Joe showed that he can put the ball on the money, if our receivers would just catch it.
Agreed. This offense shows more weapons and is going to be even harder to stop than 2022 IMO. Very balanced attack that will force opposing DCs to „pick their own poison“. Every non lineman on that field offensively was a threat to score. Good luck accounting for them all, especially in a tempo game.

We need to cut down on penalties. Im looking for no pre snap offensive penalties against Austin Peay. Unforced errors can't putting Milton behind the sticks in the swamp.

We had 4 penalties for 35 yards. That is a respectably clean game IMO.

I’m more concerned with the dropsies and special teams play, but I’m confident we will clean those up.

Offense was very balanced - I think some of you want to see pass, pass, pass and pass. I prefer balance with the opportunity to hit one quick every now and then.

You take what the defense gives you. And you are right…those were exactly the things that UVa gave us on Saturday. It’s called good coaching.

Milton only really had one bad series. Hooker had some last last year. But as many plays as we run per Game, it means more opportunities to score. A drop by Keyton, and a fumble by Dee...take those 2 away and it's 63-13 and everyone's talking about Milton winning the Heisman and us going undefeated. We aren't perfect, but we are so far removed from where we were 3 years ago it ain't even funny.
