Unfair to Milton

We ran the ball well. No need to throw every down. Joe is fine. He proved that the last two games of last season.
Wait a sec. I can give you that regarding the Clemson game, but wasn’t he like 11 of 21 for less than 150 yards in the Vanderbilt game?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Joe Milton is going to be better than we ever thought he would be. I know I'll get roasted and flamed if my prediction turns out wrong, but there is just "something" about him. The Vols are fun to watch again and he is a big part of that.

He totally redeemed himself for any bad throws during the game, when he grabbed that UVA player by his face and threw him on his backside.. Honestly, how many times have you ever seen a QB do that?.. 🤣😂🤣

It was awesome...
I told my wife to watch the replay.
There was no replay.:(

Watching football all weekend and paying attention to the throws from other qb's you notice there are lots of missed and overthrown during a game. Because of the way he started in 20 everyone makes a big deal. I watched the Pitt game from last year, not just the hilights and Hooker overthrew an open reciever the first series. The difference between Hooker that game and the Bama game is drastic. Milton has an overthrow though and it's overthrow Joe. Pay attention to the other qb's. They all throw bad passes.
I agree with you, unfortunately, a lot of our fans only watch Tennessee.

I feel fine about Milton. He played well. The OLine looked strong, RBs looked powerful (just wish JSmalls would miss those turf potholes he keeps stepping in).

I hope the punter is doing his due diligence. I understand if it was nerves. Just means he needs practice, practice, practice.

Our fan base needs to support him and not be so quick to question him. Heupel can develop QBs and you can already see an improvement with him. I think he has 1 bad drive and then 1 bad throw that came on a 3rd and long after Keytons drop. Milton played a good game.
The biggest improvement Heupel has made with Joe, is between the ears!
Everything else will take care of itself.
If there’s one position I don’t stress about with Heup, it’s QB.

Milton had a much better game and looked much more confident against UVA than Hooker did against Pitt imo. Now, Pitt is a much better team that UVA, but I’m just calling it like I see it. If Keyton had caught that absolute dime of a pass like he usually does in his sleep, everyone would be talking about Milton’s improvement this week.

I'm not feeling the vibe near what it was when Hooker got the job after he got injured. Milton wasn't accurate then, however I was watching for it and didn't see anything out of the ordinary that (as someone said) other quarterbacks are doing. Even Bryce Young had a bad throw every now and then. Keyton's drop wasn't on Milton, he had the ball where it should have been. Looks like Keyton studder stepped to alter speed, and it was just enough to break his concentration.
When you get a chance watch the first quarter of Pitt last year. Hooker was not on at all. He overthrew an open Hyatt on the very first drive.

Yeah, that was Cam Newton level stuff there.

Joe was awesome. I have watched the videos of Peyton, Clausen, Kelly, Dobbs, and Hooker all summer. Joe looked better than anyone else. If I were Heupel,I'd start using some Wing T like my uncle,Coach Roger Webb utilized at Meigs County back in the 90s. He was able to get to the state championship game with a very small, nearly all white school. But I would love to see Joe and our boys run that at the speed of Heup. Talk about some tired and dumbfounded defenses.....which will quickly make demoralized and defeated defenses. But I have no complaints about the team. We kicked their azzes. I will always despise them after that 91 Sugar Bowl mockery of Tennessee. I am not expecting us to lose for the next two years or so.....Go Big Bad Orange!

Milton it seems for now is being given short shrift by most pundits. I rarely see him in the top 5 or 10 on most lists. After this weekend. The LSU QB and Rattler at USCjr fell by the wayside. The Tar Hell QB fell out of contention thrtowing as many INTs as he did TDs. Dabos QB that people were pushing ahead of Milton who outplayed him heads up also fell out of contention when Duke handled him. It will shake out as the season goes on bu Milton is being overlooked IMO here at the outset of the season.

Honestly, people should think back to 1998; Tee Martin struggled for the better part of the first half of the season. If memory serves me correctly, it wasn’t until halftime of the Georgia game, when Cutcliffe had a “come-to-Jesus” meeting with him, that things really started to fall into place for Tee, and he began to perform at a more consistently high level.

The situation with Joe is the same as it has been all year - we don’t know anything until we have seen him in a high pressure game against a decent opponent.

Beating teams like Vandy, UVA, and AP, who never really had a chance proves nothing. Beating Clemson was encouraging.

But we really need to see him perform well against UF (yes ..I know they are not up to their standard) in the Swamp before we know what we’ve got this year. Arguing about style points and play calling thus far is a big waste of time. We will know Saturday night….huge game for this team.

Those who are criticizing Milton and looking only at a few questionable throws are not seeing the fact that his decision making has been stellar. He is going through his progressions and making the proper throw, which is a big reason why he has zero INT's. The accuracy will get better, and then look out. The guy is clearly a leader and this is his team.

The other ridiculous thing you keep seeing is the constant comparisons to Hooker and last year's offense scoring 50 a game. Milton isn't Hooker, and this is a different team, deeper at more spots than last year. It's actually a good thing if we can win games in different ways and not be forced to put up big numbers every game. It's early, and this team's identity is still yet to be determined.

It just depends on when he figures it out. He's going to the league and it may be there....He is a freak! Id rather see less dancing and more quarterbacking.

Say what you want about Milton, but I can guarantee you his is every coach that we play against biggest nightmare.
Imagine game planning against him.
You mean just play two deep safeties all game and let him miss the short stuff over and over? Yeah very hard to gameplan for that. Austin Peay couldn't figure that....oh wait.

I noticed that too. We’ll hear it every week. It’s hard for people to get past first impressions.
Its not first impressions its HIVE MIND. People have labeled him overthrow Joe of a handful of plays and a complete DISMISSAL OF LOGIC.

Fact the stronger the QB's arm the more likely they are to have overthrows.
If I am Mike Tyson its harder for me to not knock you out than it is to knock you out.
Better put
1 guy has a range of 70 another has a range of 100. The guy with a range of 70 is gonna have an easier time consistently hitting 50 because he has less settings to choose from. However, the guy with a range of 100 is gonna be able to hit 50 later in the game more consistently.

Look at the history of football. Superstrong arm and super accurate are never the same guy. You can have a fairly accurate guy with a strong arm compared to other guys with a strong arm.

Lastly, Perceived accuracy is sometimes out the the QB's hand because the WR plays a big part in it. On shorter routes it plays less of a role but once that ball leaves the QB's hand.. it's literally out of his hands. The guy slips, gets jammed, fails to get a release, makes the wrong break., farts, over runs it or cant catch up to it. Any of those things can make a perfect thrown look bad. Or in the case of this weekend when WR's drop 8-10 catchable balls and a ref calls one an incompletion.
