Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

No. Just like Adidas does, Nike uses a different vendor for most of their kids' gear and that vendor operates on a slightly different timeline. There was almost no youth gear on July 1, there is a little more now. The jerseys are expected to hit retail in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks. I appreciate the info.

Just FYI, the VolShop tweeted out yesterday that they are expecting additional jersey numbers to be released, but I've been told by multiple people involved in those decisions that #16 will be the only number mass produced this year, something a lot of schools are doing because of the current player likeness litigation.

Does the school have any kind of likeness licensing deal with PM for use of that number? Just curious as I'm not super familiar with how that works. Obviously if it doesn't have his name on it it's just a numbered jersey...on the other hand, most sports fans in America know exactly who made the #16 Tennessee Vols jersey what it is today.

I've always wanted a Tennessee Nike Rashad Baker jersey.

Also I saw somewhere were somebody said it looked like the unis Holloway wore but just darker gray and gray. When I look at it like that it makes those unis super cool to me. They're unique and no one in the country has the same jersey with different colors. Unlike what Adidas had for us. Nike actually made us something for us

Well the helmet has different shades of gray in it, so the jersey matches the helmet. I don't know why people can't figure that out? I guess the reason is that the Smoky Mt. helmet has not been shown in lighting that allows it to stand out. When they wear the gray in a game I think the two tone jersey will make more sense to people, especially if it's a day game. Your right about Tennessee having a unique gray jersey.

Hey DP, will we debut our practice jerseys tomorrow or will we still be in Adidas. Thanks for any answer.

No, because he's not a current player. Just a 16 is fine.

If "Manning" was on the back, it would have to be licensed thru the NFLPA. Manning can't make his own deals while a member of the Union.

The concern in using current player numbers is that a judge could decide in the future that the number constitutes a player likeness. Then they would potentially owe years of back royalties. Tennessee and other schools have attempted to head that off by only making certain numbers available, none of those relating to current players.

The number 16 is retired so no current player could sue for likeness use. And I doubt Peyton Manning or Rick Clausen will come out of the woodwork to sue either.

Edit: DP beat me to it.

I've been wanting our gameday cleats to go back to black with white trim for awhile now, I just prefer the look of black cleats.

Seeing black cleats on the practice vids makes me wonder if those are just for practice and gameday cleats will remain white with orange trim or if we are returning to black cleats across the board.

Anyone know or have thoughts on this?
