Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

Pretty sure this tweet is referring to the same changes already talked about.

Was about to say the same thing. I think it's what we have been discussing in the other thread I linked earlier. I have posted other tweets in that thread where some "hints" were dropped about the changes.

I like the classics. When USC, Bama, PSU, OK, FSU, and a few others play, I know who I'm watching. We need to maintain our traditional look.

Speaking of USC, they did have a pretty funny tweet poking fun at other teams and all their uniform combos and putting out their uniform "schedule"

I have never understood the sacredness and sanctity of having the same old boring unis every year. So what if Bama and Auburn do it. They marry their first cousins too.

As Ric Flair would say, "You got to style and profile. Woooooo!"

I mean, it's quite possible you're correct. I just only saw mentions of it just a few days ago being talked about like it was new news. The post you cited was written up over 5 years ago and I didn't scroll through all of the 220 pages. Is there a specific recent talk about this years uniforms is what I mean. All I really saw was water cooler talk. Not trying to be an ass, just genuinely curious and I'm at work so I can't spend time scrolling page after page.

I would like to see the right color orange (our orange) in a really slick and shiny uniform with chrome helmet with orange power T

traditional but updated modern!

Fulmer and Pruitt made it clear no more gimmicks and alternate uniforms...Straight classic orange and white...How it should be

I'm pretty strong on tradition. But the kids who actually play the games today seem to like some flair and changes in the unis. I can live with it. Especially if it helps recruiting.
Alabama, Georgia, etc. seem to do just fine keeping their traditional unis as they are.

Honestly, only a program trying to build their brand for the first time (e.g., Oregon) needs to do stuff like that. Alabama Crimson, Tennessee Orange...everyone knows what that is.

Winning cures a lot of those recruiting woes anyway.

Also, think back to the Battle at Bristol. Watch that in five years, and you'd know Tennessee was playing but would have trouble figuring out who the hell else was on the field.

Or 2016 Florida. That game will be remembered for a little while since it broke the streak. I'm sure people 10 years from now will be like "wait, what were we wearing?"

Don't get me wrong, I'm for tradition because I'm old enough to remember but those 2 teams also win enough that they don't NEED to rebrand. We can't sell kids on our iconic uniforms and Tradition because literally none of them were alive the last time Tennessee was relevant. Our name isn't as prevalent as it was 20-40 years ago. To them this might as well be us building our brand for the first time. Almost all of them mention in their commitment statements about "rebuilding" or "creating" a dynasty. Go back and look at all of the recruits pictures they post on twitter etc. About 90% are the smokey greys....even the ones from this year.... despite us knowing for a fact they won't be used. What we want doesn't matter, not if you want the best players.

Sure we can. Tennessee has one of the most prominent brands in college football, and that's saying something because we haven't had a truly great season in nearly 20 years. Everybody everywhere who follows college football knows what that Power T is.

Alabama was a complete joke when Saban arrived. What'd he sell them on, because it sure as hell wasn't a uni change or recent success. They had fired a coach just a few years prior before he coached a single game because he cavorted with strippers in a hotel. They were a total embarrassment. Those kids he recruited during his first few years there had no personal memory of a good Alabama team. Kirby's 2016 and 2017 classes had no personal memory of a Georgia team that won a national title or SEC title. Dabo didn't land Deshaun Watson because Watson had childhood memories of a nationally-dominant Clemson team. Steve Spurrier didn't get guys like Clowney, Lattimore, and numerous other guys he put in the NFL because South Carolina has a great history as a football program.

A good coach just finds a way to get the players, develops them, and starts winning. That's building the machine, and that's the hard part. Once you start winning it is easier to keep the momentum coming, at least in terms of attracting top talent.

I’m sure Bama winning multiple nattys helps recruiting too
