Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

I asked CBJ about alternative helmets and he said "no plans for them right now." Since u can't lie to a random guy in an autograph line, you can take this as gospel.

Just like when you ask an undercover cop if they are the police

Oh, we don't play with leather helmets anymore. In the early to mid-60's just about every team in the country added a helmet emblem and eliminated the numerals. It was good for program identity.

Gimmicks are like the orange cleats against Alabama in 1986 and the wide stripe down the side of the uniform in 2001. I think the cleats were donated to a good cause after Alabama cleaned our clock in Neyland. And the wide strips were gone by 2002. Even the arm stripes that Majors introduced in 1977 ran their course and we went back to the traditional jersey.

I actually own a pair of those infamous orange turf shoes from that Bama game as part of my memorabilia collection. They donated the rest to some school or league in Russia or somewhere that was trying to start playing football. A strange little piece of UT history, I guess!

IIRC we did that in reaction to Ohio State bringing out a scarlet cleat earlier that season in which they won a big game.

Geez how many uniform combos does UK have now? Assuming they still keep the black jerseys and pants, that's what 4 jerseys, 4 pants (if they get grey pants too), and 3 helmets?

I just don't see the point in having that many uniforms; this isn't baseball or even basketball, there's no way they'll ever get to wear every uniform. Granted I doubt they'd mix and match the grey with the black but you never know.

It's not nearly as big of a "recruiting tool" as message board experts would have you believe. It's something small that gets them excited briefly, but it's very small in the grand scheme of what schools have to offer.

Strong possibility that they are light enough to wear at Oregon.

Probably would depend on what Oregon is wearing too. I pray they aren't wearing the all bright yellow they showed off earlier.

More gray uniforms! Would hate to jump on the black bandwagon, but the blandness of the gray wagon sure is worth it.

If UT uses gray then they need to outline everything orange with a white border. That really brings out the orange.

Sorry if the pic doesn't show up, but coach kept posted this pic today. It appears to be a upper bak collar of. Jersey and has the adidas impact Camo on it. So uh, food for thought I guess. Makes me think a lot. Can't tell if good or bad.

I'm a big fan them moving towards some 'state' logos. The outline, tri-star, etc.

Who did you say was posting this?

Mississippi State used to do that on their uniforms, and the New Orleans Saints still have that on their. I’m actually surprised it wasn’t on there before. And not surprised to see it.

I am as well. I think this will also get under the skin of Vandy's coaching staff. I'm sure one of their coaches will make some dumbass comment on twitter about the state.
