Oh, we don't play with leather helmets anymore. In the early to mid-60's just about every team in the country added a helmet emblem and eliminated the numerals. It was good for program identity.
Gimmicks are like the orange cleats against Alabama in 1986 and the wide stripe down the side of the uniform in 2001. I think the cleats were donated to a good cause after Alabama cleaned our clock in Neyland. And the wide strips were gone by 2002. Even the arm stripes that Majors introduced in 1977 ran their course and we went back to the traditional jersey.
I actually own a pair of those infamous orange turf shoes from that Bama game as part of my memorabilia collection. They donated the rest to some school or league in Russia or somewhere that was trying to start playing football. A strange little piece of UT history, I guess!
SIAP. UK's new look
It's not nearly as big of a "recruiting tool" as message board experts would have you believe. It's something small that gets them excited briefly, but it's very small in the grand scheme of what schools have to offer.
Strong possibility that they are light enough to wear at Oregon.
Sorry if the pic doesn't show up, but coach kept posted this pic today. It appears to be a upper bak collar of. Jersey and has the adidas impact Camo on it. So uh, food for thought I guess. Makes me think a lot. Can't tell if good or bad.
