Uniform/Helmet/Shoe design thread (merged)

"Lastly, let's just address this: there's increasing belief Tennessee will wear an alternate helmet in the coming season. From prospects to on-campus staff, nearly double-digit people have told VolQuest.com the alternate helmet --- Tennessee has had, essentially, the same 'Power T' helmet for several decades --- is going to become a reality this year. Multiple designs have been studied, from one that would closely match the Vols' 'Smokey Gray' alternate uniforms to an entirely different scheme. We will continue pursuing this matter, but we expect Tennessee has made plans --- and, according to sources, orders --- to wear a new helmet this fall."

I'm guessing VQ didn't have pics of said helmets yet?

...................................................what!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Can't leave it at that DP!!

You know, I used to be one of the most die-hard uniform traditionalists. But, things change. You simply can't get a reputation as a "cool" or "hip" football school without having some alternates. Recruits love it, most fans love it, and, most of all, the AD's wallet loves it. So that being said, I am excited to see these alternate helmets. As long as we wear the traditional white/orange/white for 4-5 home games a year I'll be alright.

At least we have seemed to grow past the "Well Bama doesn't do it, blah blah.." posts.

Bama has the luxury to not do it because they win national titles every other year. What's the point in making a new jersey to sell your program when you can walk in a recruits home and throw a handful of National Championship rings at them? Maybe if we were still winning ~10 games a year we could be without the alternates but right now I'm for anything that makes UT look cool to a recruit.

Also, I'll admit the smokey greys looked pretty sweet.

I think the perfect helmet to go with the greys would be a grey carbon fiber helmet, but with thw same style as the default (Orange stripe, etc.) Would love to see them do this and would not at all be surprised.

I agree. I would still like to see a power T on the side, just a different color scheme.

I'll definitely be surprised if we end up wearing regular home uniforms for the Bammer game. Would also be great time to surprise with new helmets

But?...the Curse?...we'd have had 7 wins if it weren't for those stupid Smokies.

Its the same argument every time. You guys think what you like personally, is more important than what the actual team, coaches, and university want to do and you attach "tradition" to it to rationalize what is essentially just your opinion. How about you guys have a little faith in the program you love, enjoy the ride, and remember that there is a T on the side of the helmet, not your name. I have been watching the Vols for almost 30 years and I don't fret over the uniforms, I just enjoy and cheer for the team because I am a fan, not a GM.

+1
