Unofficial UT vs Vandy Game Thread

Robinette coming into the game for Vandy at QB.

Completes a swing pass for a first down. Ran through arm-tackles by our guys. We still don't tackle all that well. Better than last year, but still not very good.

The next play results in a minimal gain by Vandy. Pursuit by AJ Johnson has been good. Tacking up the middle is much better than on the outside.

Neal hasn't done much tonight. Of course, he hasn't had too many chances. Lane looks to be the better back tonight up to this point.

Vandy QB gains a yard on a run, sets up 3rd and 4 to go.

Vandy dropped pass on third down . . . but, of course, pass interference on our guy (Coleman). Frustrating, but AJ followed up with a tackle for a loss.

Vandy fails to convert on 3rd down with 12 seconds left. Coleman should have had an INT but he couldn't come up with it.

Vandy is on our side of the 50. I might try to go for it if I was them. It's not like we have done anything on the offensive side of the ball and our defense is known to blow coverage fairly regularly, especially in big situations.

Heh... of course. I'm still trying to track it through ESPN too, but this is painful. At least it's 7-7... hopefully we can keep it there til halftime.

Dobbs has had only 5 yards passing in the first half. We only had 86 yards of total offense so far.

By all rights, we should be down 21-7 or 21-0 right now. We have been lucky. The second half play must improve greatly if we are going to win this game. The offense has been bad (looks almost like the bad days of Crompton and the Clawfense). The defense is getting lucky but playing ok. The O needs to hold up its end of the deal.

On a depressing note, Florida (with their loss today) has sealed their worst season since 1979 . . . and we still couldn't beat them this year. I think that I won't see us beat them again before I die. Really. I hate FLorida more than anything else in the world.

So, from what I can tell:

-Dobbs is doing terrible.

-The O-line/run game started out very bad, but now they are making some progress.

-The D is being our typical D... giving up long 3rd downs, decent coverage on the pass and can't stop the run

-Franklin is outcoaching Butch atm.

?

pretty accurate for someone that's not even watching.

I think that the defense is playing marginally well, at least compared to the rest of the season. unfortunately, it's probably more due to Vandy mistakes than anything we are really doing.

I can't figure Dobbs out. He definitely doesn't look good. Hard to tell how much is due to receivers, but his throws down the field have been bad. As bad or worse than Worley's earlier in the season. I'd like to think that he'll come out and turn it on in the second half, but I'm not confident at this point.

The running game is going to have to carry us and the defense will have to come up big. I've seen nothing to make me think that we have any better than a 50-50 chance (probably too optimistic) of winning the game. Vandy looks bad, too, but we are no better.

On a brighter note, the crowd sounds like it is ok (at least on tv). Decent crowd noise and a decent looking crowd for it being really cold and during the school break leading up to Thanksgiving. You gotta love our fans. After all that we've been through, we keep coming back for more. Go VOLS!

I am assuming that all the black in the stands is not Vandy fans but coats because it is cold. Who is there and am i right.

We get the ball first to start the second half. Let's see how we do.

Young gets a decent return . . . still stand by my earlier comments. We can't get a big runback on ST. Seems like there is a team rule about having a big return.

THe first play is yet another throw to side for a 1 yard gain.

Dobbs runs it for 6 yards. Sets up a 3rd and 3 to go.

Neal runs it up the middle for a first down!

Neal with another good run for 4 yards.

Dobbs complete across the middle for a marginal gain. Sets up a 3rd and 3 to go.

Strange play . . . off sides AND a pass interference AND maybe a roughing the passer. All good for us.

Back after halftime.... I disagree with that call by the ref... that was a lead with the helmet by Vandy... Should have been targeting... player eject... but nawwww

Wow . . . great run by Dobbs for a first down. It was 3rd and 9 to go. Agains a good team, we are probably sacked, but against Vandy it's a big play. Nice moves by Dobbs!

Dobbs can't throw. It's fourth down. Gotta kick.

Palardy sneaks in a FG from 32 yards. It bounced off one goal post and then through. Not pretty, but we'll take it at this point. We just can't buy a TD. Going to lose unless we figure a way to get in the endzone in the second half because I am sure that our defense will end up giving them some big plays.

Parlardy FG Good, but it hit upright...very close. It looked like they were just playing for the FG when they got in range. I definitely don't like that.

@ asoldierswife, you're fine. You're still ahead of what I can see :p I appreciate you guys doing this...

And I agree, we definitely need to find a way into the endzone. At least we could put up 3 though. Now it's time for the D to step up. I feel like Palardy's performance is largely due to the weather, which could also explain Dobbs' inability to throw any better.

Vandy with a big kickoff return.

This is what I'm talking about . . .EVERYONE, even Vandy, figures out a way to have a big run back. Meanwhile, we can barely reach the 20.

The loser mentality that makes us give up a big play at the exact worst time - when we actually have some momentum, is maddening.

It looks like we just expect to screw up and come out on the losing end.
