Unsung heroes of 2022

He didn't get much playing time on defense this year. If he isn't good enough to play significant minutes next year in our atrocious secondary I would love to see him move to WR. Dude is electric with the ball in his hands and has tremendous vision. Dont want to see someone with that much talent wasting away on a position he just isn't getting playing time at.
I've wondered the same. Dee is a real force returning punts, & it's apparent he has the ball skills necessary to be a great DB.

I will admit I am somewhat prejudiced as his and his parents home is one street over from my own. But here goes.
After a long career that started with a fairly serious ailment and staffs that moved him at least once ever season, this staff finally put him on the defensive line. I have watched pretty close this season and teams just did not run to his side very often and when they did they had little success. For the Vandy game he seemed to play nose guard (first time I remember) and Vandy had little to no success up the middle. Many tackles made on the inside were made because runners just could not get outside on his side of the ball. My praise is for J. Bumpus. Who by the way ran the ball with great success in high school. When I see lineman in the backfield I think how well I think he would do. Oh and as a tight end some of his career, on the end of the line (tackle eligible) I think he would have been pretty good.

Jeremiah “Upchuck” Crawford and Gerald Mincey. They both played pretty well from the jump and seemingly got better as the season went on. We’re gonna need both of them next year.
The video clip of Crawford's Orange Spew during the Bama win should lock him in VOL history IMHO. That video with the song "The Game" by MotorHead should be shown and played at least once every game on the JumboTron.

Totally agree with these 3. Beasley played much better this season. If Wright can fix the fumbling, I believe he'd separate himself from Small and get more carries.

I'd add Cooper Mays to the list. His production is difficult to measure, but he's been talked about as being one of the best centers in CFB in some circles.

I’ll add the middle of our OL- Carvin, Mays, and Spraggins. They got a good push on run plays at least 80% of the time, and they did their job to keep HH upright and healthy in the passing game.

Agree on all with the exception of Spraggins. I know he's regarded as a team leader, but between the penalties, and the extreme struggle in pass pro, I was somewhat disappointed in his progression this season. ...His attitude and intensity still make him one of my favorite players.

That would be pretty cool to play that song at the beginning of the 4th quarter like the Steelers do with Renegade

There's a few guys that aren't being talked up enough that were key to our 10- 2 season.

1) Aaron Beasley - stat wise took a step back, but that was because of more rotating with a healthy Juwan Mitchell. Was a much better player this year in how he effected the game.

2) Jaylen Wright- 786 yards rushing (5.8) per carry 👍. He's maybe 205, but when he ran behind his pads he was a hammer!! Had some beautiful long runs and even more hard earned 3rd down conversions. He keeps us on a schedule and his maybe our toughest offensive player.

3) Ramel Keyton- 500 yards and 4 TDs. Huge plays in our big games! Critical catch game winning drive vs Alabama. Epic diving catch vs Florida to start our run that Florida couldn't catch up to. He showed strong hands, elusiveness, and tenacity all season.

And all of these guys come back next year! It could really be another special season I think 🎯🧡
Need to look at our front seven on defense with a good back four the defense would have been at least top 40

Keyton is definitely my pick. Every team has their star players, but I believe the great seasons are built on the backs of the supporting cast.

One of the biggest plays of the season was Keyton’s diving catch against Florida with a minute left in the half. Set us up for a TD before halftime and put us on a great trajectory to win the game.

It’s that kind of contribution that makes teams and seasons great.

Tooting your own horn only works if you are train conductor.

The fans in the stands make a difference. And we pay the bills. The money for the program doesn’t fall from the sky. The TV contracts for the SEC wouldn’t be so spectacular if it weren’t for the 50 million fans.

No fans no NIL.

We aren’t quite unsung and neither are the players mentioned on this thread. We did make a difference in the Alabama game.

I think you missed a few. Doneiko Slaughter, Dylan Sampson, Princeton Fant, Juwan Mitchell, the freshman DL's (peirce, herring, west) and of course when healthy the 2 guys at LT. A lot of folks stepped up. I think the most unsung Hero this year was Fant though. He did some stuff that changed the game and made people remember what an Hback is. The fullback position is dead in football as a position to make a career in but Hback is its replacement.

I was critical of Ramel Keaton‘s production heading into this season, but he came up huge in Tillman’s absence.

I would also say most people didn’t realize what Jeremy Banks meant to this team until it was highlighted in a negative way against S Carolina. Whatever happened cost us a chance at the playoff and Hooker being a Heisman finalist.

I don’t know his name but the skinny white dude with a goatee that is a horrible rapper deserves as much credit as anyone. Some posters have shared his videos before when he raps about the Vols.
