Up The Middle

Just like the UK game the LBers were often out of position and did not play well. Carter and Tellander both played poorly for the 2nd week in a row.
Linebackers are forced to cover the motion in our defense. Tackles have to clog the middle. They said on the broadcast last night that Garner was saying the DL has to do a better job.

The problem I noticed is when we left Carter alone at Mike. On MSU’s successful runs up the middle he either got blocked or was out of position. Credit Banks for making the adjustment and keeping 2 LBs in the box. It made a big difference.

Nobody has run up the middle so effectively against us as last night.

After the first 6 or 7 gashes, you’d think Banks would adjust?
Their center and left guard were absolute men . They controlled our Dt s most of the night. A lot of fans don’t give credit to the other teams. They have players who are on scholarship and are good enough to play in the sec. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to a better player

It’s not that complicated to have large gashing runs up the middle when there aren’t defensive tackles or a nose guard lined up over the guards or center. Several folks in the stands called the runs before the play because the defense was lined up outside the box.

Careful, tn4elvis. You might get Penced for daring to verify the obvious. We got plenty here who don't cotton to the truth. Even during our dark decade of discontent, we, ourselves had very capable players who gave their opponents fits. Trey, Jennings, Barnett, Dobbs, just to name a few. Be careful.

We gave up 14 points and people are worried about our defense thats top 5 nationally. My, how the turns have tabled.

Arion Carter is beat up, but still played a good game. Telander has filled in better for Pili than anyone could have expected. Both of those fine LBs had to come off the field at times and were replaced by others...because they are human. MSU ran the exact same play running in the A gap about 10 times. Because it worked...their center and guards are good at combo blocking defensive tackles.

If we cannot beat UGA in Athens, it won't be because of our defense folks. This is the best defense we have had since 98 hands down. It will be because we cannot score points, and because we have false start penalties, and because our Tackles will get too many Holding calls because they are the weak point of our team. UGA loves to shift their whole Dline sideways 1 gap...right before the ball is snapped which messes up blocking schemes. It has given us problems in the past. Hopefully we practice against it this week.

I think its gonna be a low scoring, ugly rock fight type game. We have won a bunch of those this year...and lost 1. Lets go beat those Pups and claim the no1 spot where we belong.
