Still curious about a logical explanation in regards to Sarwar...
A better question is why someone in his mid-30s with no connection to basketball (wasn't a player, wasn't a coach, wasn't involved in AAU) suddenly starts befriending and hanging around with teenagers who all happen to be elite basketball players.
I don't know the answer to either question.
But if someone could answer my question first, it would make yours easier to figure out.
Only Sarwar can answer your question. We can only speculate that it is an attempt to either help the kid, or help himself via the kid. In either case, what does he gain from pushing him to UT vs Memphis, Duke, UVA, etc.
This unknown answer is unrelated to your question, unless, of course, your insinuating that UT is offering him something to push kids to UT.
Am I reading between the lines, or just reading too much into your question?

I'm not insinuating anything other than most adults who attach themselves to high-profile young athletes have some sort of self-serving motive for doing so. I think we can all agree on that.
Knowing what that motive is would inform what he might have to gain. Either way, third parties who push kids to certain schools can potentionally cause major problems (see the UCF situation).
That's what I was getting at.
Even if he is saying, nichols I'll train you for free but don't forget me when you go pro. Like you said, what's to gain by pushing then to UT instead of any other school?
If he was a graduate of UT, or lived in Knoxville, or had obvious ties to staff member(s) (like the miller family) then ok. The only thing that'd make sense is if these Memphis fans are insinuating sarwar is receiving some sort of benefit from the university, and there's absolutely no evidence of that, so IMO pure BS.
Canes beat me to it but we are both saying the same thing. Just like someone that wants to feel important. And to feel important, he latches onto kids and now he's a bigtime trainer in his mind.
