UPDATE: Urban Meyer's resignation is now a leave of absence

I get that feeling also. I think this leave of absence deal has a lot to do with Foley and the recruiting season that's in full swing. I think Meyer's wife let his real intentions slip out. Damage control is all that's going on now. Their recruiting is going to suffer regardless. Their team is going to suffer regardless. Some things you just can't reverse and this is one of them. Quit one day, back another. Oh and one more thing, if Meyer's health was such a issue how come he's coaching the bowl game? There is more to this story and the drama isn't over yet.

I agree, they realized after he made the announcement that the recruiting class was going to fall apart. And now I still think they will lose a lot of recruits due to the uncertainty around all of this. Another thing I am thinking is, if Meyer just quit, then UF would look for a new coach, but if he just acts as if he was talking a leave of absence and Addazio takes over and does well then they could possibly give him the job full time.

Damage control. UF will be a wreck next year. It's like that song on the wizard of OZ. Ding Dong the witch is dead the witch dead, lol.

You know, for a few hours there on Saturday night, after the shock wore off, I actually thought I may have been wrong about Meyer. After all, I'd always thought of him as a whiny, narcissistic, self-aggrandizing prima donna with a God complex. But when he said he was leaving UF because of his health and for the benefit of his family, I thought "wow...that's a pretty selfless act." Football's this guy's life. To walk away would have been COMPLETELY out of character for him.

Then yesterday, I find out the guy is who I thought he was. Didn't even tell the wife and kids of his change of heart until after he had notified other people. Then I hear him say things like "full speed ahead" and "my family comes first" within seconds of each other during the press conference, and I just scratch my head. Those statements are in conflict with each other...which tells me the guy's a headcase at the moment and has no idea what he's doing.

Gator fans, you can spin this any way you want, but this is nothing but bad news for your football program. Perception is reality, and right now, you guys are the crazy uncle.

The interesting thing is this could do more damage to Florida than if Meyer just had stayed with his initial decision. If he doesn't come back, I'm sure they'll say he had more problems than they initially thought but it will still make them look like lying scum to most recruits with two functional brain cells. It's bad for UF if Meyer has to retire but if this just a show to keep recruits on board like most think it makes UF look like the scum of the earth.

As if AK-47 toting, eye gouging, dead girl credit card stealing, girlfriend beating (need I go on?) players didn't do that for you already.....

I will say it was REALLY fun sitting at a bar with a bunch of gator friends when the news broke. I swear I have never seen people look more pathetic than they did! They all wanted to go home, and it was only 8:30.

Urban is staying with UF. He is taking a year or two off from coaching and coming back to Florida. This has been confirmed through quite a few sources and ran during the Jags/Pats game. Steve Addazio will become interim head coach until Meyer is ready to come back... is what I am hearing. More to come. Maybe this will salvage a lot of our recruits.

If this is the case, how do you Vols see this situation? You'd get a another chance at Meyer when he comes back, and would give Lane plenty of time to build the UT program.

What is it with Florida and its incredibly indecisive head coaches? It's like Florida has Brett Favre coaching its teams down there!

To Me this would be like a slap at his family...He kepted saying family and health first and bla bla, but then does this....ummmm I'm sure his kids are so happy now...:shakehead:

Here's another possibility: He really is giving up the Head Coach job but after further discussions with the Florida AD he came up with this "leave of absence" bull sheet and "my gut says I'll coach in 2010" so that the Gators could keep their recruits. It seems likely to me that it will still hurt their recruiting as any recruit with an IQ over 60 has got to be wondering who'll be coaching for not only next year but the next 4. As a final thought don't you think rival coaches are already spreading the word that Urban's a nut job?
