(Updated 7/13) 2021 MLB Draft and Roster Management Discussion Thread

Loosing Pavolony was my biggest concern. We seem to have players that will fill in all of the vacancies. But we don't have a catcher with game experience at this level.

I'm happy for all the Vols that got drafted though. Go live your dream and make us all proud. I enjoyed watching y'all play. GBO!

Day 2 - Over.

Vol Selections --> Ferguson, Rucker, Spence, Dallas, and Pavolony.
Commitment Selections --> Dooney, Spikes
Notable Names Not Drafted --> Burns, Leath, Stephenson, and Moore.

It's looking a little bad for our SS commits, but a lot more good than bad today. Hopefully this could be good news for us and Leath.

With regards to a catcher, Vols are in a good spot for the transfer catcher from Kentucky, Coltyn Kessler. He was a Buster Poster National Collegiate Catcher of the Year semifinalist this year. He hasn't announced a transfer destination yet, but he would fill the vacancy for an experienced catcher.

You have to think Moore and Stephenson had a number that teams weren't willing to meet or they would've been drafted. If they flat out told teams they'll sign for whatever (so $100K now), then they didn't do themselves any service.

…and from a take home standpoint that looks like ~$70k upon signing, two additional payments of ~$50k each. That’s being generous. My guess is they make it to Knoxville. They would have to be both desperate and unable to make grades to choose to sign.

I did read that, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Kessler would be a welcome parachute if we have space and he decides to transfer.
