(Updated 7/13) 2021 MLB Draft and Roster Management Discussion Thread

Gotta think that Blade starts on Fridays right? He sure did earn it down the stretch and ended up leading the starters in ERA I think
I’d say Blade is set for the Friday night spot. Burns likely is your Sunday starter. I think Saturday will be between Halvorsen, Sewell, and Dollanger if he transfers to Tennessee. Adding Dollanger would give this team an elite pitching staff similar to what Mississippi State had this year. Now the biggest question is….who plays SS & C? Ideal scenario, Stephenson comes to campus and Kessler transfers in. Lipscomb at 3B. Chambers at 2B. Steenstra at 1B. Booker in LF. That could be an Omaha team

Ben Joyce could be a starter for us. Leath if he comes back obviously. Halvorsen could do it, but I’d love to see him as our closer. Sewell deserves a shot at it, IMO. We are pretty solid in the pitching department. If Leath comes back we’re elite over night. Our outfield is loaded - Booker (what’s up with Russell?), Gilbert, Beck. Steenstra at first is great, kid can mash. Lipscomb is solid at third. We need Moore to get to campus. We need Kessler. My god what a lineup.

LSU will have an elite lineup top to bottom but they will not have pitching depth or top end bullpen talent on the same tier as us.

I don’t know if I would go that far just yet, we gotta replace a lot ourselves, but at this very moment in time, can we protect our turf, I think we’re alright.

GBO!!!

If Moore and Stephenson both make it to Knoxville, who is your DH? Moore or Lipscomb? I don’t know who plays better defense, assuming the other plays 3B.

I would say Lipscomb is more of a HR threat if I'm taking a stab at it. I think our lineup will have plenty of power so it will just depend on what we need from that slot and where they land in the order.

I was taking a look at MLB.com's best available talent and noticed that 3 of the top pitchers that went undrafted are all going to UCLA.

Gage Jump MLB's #43 draft prospect
Thatcher Hurd #60
Cody Schrier #63

UCLA has a Top 3 recruiting class. So much talent in California. It’s a surprise they aren’t good more consistently than they have been.

Taylor is nothing to sneeze at, I ain’t watched him a lot but kid can play catcher, he can hit…he isn’t scared, I will leave it at that.

GBO!!!
Can Greer come back or was this his extra COVID senior year?

We could potentially have the best pitching staff in the SEC but Arkansas and LSU are going to have some loaded lineups. Vandy will be pretty solid on both sides depending upon the progression of their young arms.

I like your thinking on this lineup. Now, let's make it happen.
