(Updated 7/13) 2021 MLB Draft and Roster Management Discussion Thread

Gotta imagine Spikes is signing at that spot, but his tweet earlier made it seem like he was going to stay. Guess we'll see. Rays are a great landing spot for him if so.
Just saw the slot pick is 581k signing bonus...is that enough for a HS kid? Guess we’ll we...guess they can always offer above slot value

That tweet was him starting his negotiation for "over slot" money.

I agree. I don't think the Rays will have a lot of room to negotiate though. Entering the draft with 7.95 mil. They drafted the following:

Round 1: Carson Williams 2.5 mil slot value
Round 1 CB: Cooper Kinney 2.15 mil slot value
Round 2: Kyle Manzardo 1.08 mil slot value

I guess it depends on what they're willing to spend on those guys to secure a deal. Spikes may get a bump, but they don't have a ton of money left to spend.

Leveraging for more $$$. That's all he has at this point.

If so, he must have never had any intention of coming to school. Not sure why you even commit in that scenario, but the baseball draft is a weird process.

It certainly is a weird process. Moore seemed very enthusiastic about playing for Coach V and playing for Tennessee back in April. Guess he changed his mind.

It's likely Spikes and Rays have already agreed to a $ figure range, and he is committed to sign with them unless they back away from the $ agreement for some reason.

We're getting to the part of the draft where teams start taking college guys a lot more because of the concern of losing a top HS player to college because of slot value negotiations.

Maybe my Sox can snag a Vol in the next few rounds if I'm lucky.
