(Updated 7/13) 2021 MLB Draft and Roster Management Discussion Thread

Personally, I think this is a mistake for Fabian. He is pricing himself out of good pay days to risk going back to college for another year after his stock took a hit with a less than stellar campaign this season. Strikeouts are too high. It seems really risky to tempt fate (I.e. injury, bad season) and return to school and get even less money and be another year older.

Kopps has ZERO chance of a successful ML career.
Scouts and experts are nearly unanimous on the fact.
Although he throws that ONE pitch very well; unless that one pitch is a knuckle; then you have no chance against professional hitters.
I wouldn't count that guy out. He seems like a warrior. He'll probably find a way to make it happen.

Pick 67 is where the slot value drops under $1 million. I know teams can go above that, but they also have limited budget for bonuses. If Spikes and Burns end up going before they're projected to, let's hope it's to a team that has a limited budget. Here is a list of budget per team:

Pirates: $14,394,000
Tigers: $14,253,800
Rangers: $12,641,000
Reds: $11,905,700
Orioles: $11,829,300
Red Sox: $11,359,600
D-backs: $11,271,900
Royals: $10,917,700
Rockies: $10,543,900
Brewers: $10,063,400
Marlins: $9,949,800
Angels: $9,295,900
Mets: $9,026,300
Nationals: $8,770,000
Mariners: $8,526,000
Phillies: $8,295,000
Cardinals: $8,167,100
Twins: $8,101,400
Giants: $8,070,600
Rays: $7,955,800
Indians: $7,398,800
Yankees: $6,943,700
Padres: $6,812,300
Cubs: $6,779,400
White Sox: $6,618,600
Braves: $6,326,300
Athletics: $6,188,900
Blue Jays: $5,775,900
Dodgers: $4,646,700
Astros: $2,940,600

Thought Kevin Kopps (Arkansas pitcher) would be drafted by now.

He is graded in Rounds 3-5. Scouts think he will rely on his mid-90's fastball and use his gyro/cutter as an out-pitch. Completely different than how he approached hitters this year. He is really good, but at the same time, out-performed his talent level all year.

It will be interesting to see what the signing bonus Brady House will be offered, the Nats sitting at $8.77M with 19 rounds to go . . . oh, it will be good money and House will in all likely (99%) not be on campus . . . but the $$ will be interesting.

Congratulations to Brady House regardless!!

His slot is $4.55 MM in value, so it will be around there.

This is the position I want Vitello to get us to. I think we're on our way, but not there quite yet. I want kids to know they can turn down big money and come to TN and get bigger money. If we want to be competing with Arkansas and Vanderbilt year in and year out we have to make this jump.

I wonder how 3 years of NIL money compares to what these kids negotiate from the draft. Like what would an average ball player in the SEC make and what slot value does that equate to
