Should be this way in every college sport.
except the other pro leagues do not have 200+ minor league teams with rosters to fill. College is basically the minor leagues for NCAA FB and MBB (like it or not), and for baseball for kids that can handle the class work and do not want to ride around in busses all summer.

Quick personal update: I had hoped to update the spreadsheet and OP earlier, but it may take longer. This past weekend, we discovered my mother is facing a serious health issue, so my time has been spent on the phone scheduling medical appointments for her. I'll try to update when I can but it may be more sporadic for the time being.

Thanks everyone for your patience.

So sorry to hear about your mother @TN_gal and I offer my best wishes that her health improves swiftly. No worries on updating anything, the thread is a great source of info!

I think the Braves are good at CF and RF for a while with Acuña and Harris lol

If they’re going to use their first round pick on a Vol, Blade makes much more sense.
Never count on that…specially with Acuna’s injury record. And you need several options on deck with free agency ever looming. Besides there’s a reason the Braves have been pining for Rosario’s return.

Acuña is under contract through 2026.

Braves could always use a solid left fielder as Duvall only has a one year deal and Osuna and Rosario are signed to two year contracts.

Atlanta has always stressed pitching first.

Players do not submit their names. The MLB clubs submit a list of players that they might be selecting. Almost every major player coming out of HS and college will have an ID number. They go through a process of filling out questionnaires from MLB and individual teams. If they are a high draft pick, the club will contact them to negotiate ahead of time either with the player or their advisor, can't have an agent if you have eligibility left for amateur. If you are not a high draft pick, you may or may not ever hear from the clubs until after your name is called. The slot money has changed the draft so much that there is not as much negotiation as there used to be. They have to be a certain % close to the slot or take it from somewhere else. The top 10 rounds are important because you are not willing to burn a top 1-2 round pick on a player who is not willing to sign for that slot money. Clubs used to be willing to risk it and hope they could talk a player into coming for less but now it is not working out that well so they are getting promises before they select 1-2 round especially and some through first 10 rounds. You will also have several guys go this year immediately after the draft for the $25,000 free agent signing bonus just to get a chance. It should be interesting whose name gets called and where. Anyone who tells you they have the MLB draft figured out is lying. There are always the players who get drafted way higher than expected and those that fall for whatever reason.

I read that max bonus amounts for rounds 11-20 have increased from $125K to $150K. And also draft and follow has been reinstated. But only for JUCO players.

(Personal update: My mom is scheduled to have further testing for her health issues early next week, and my family is bracing ourselves for what may be ahead. It's been an exhausting week for us. Many thanks to those sending good thoughts and prayers. My family appreciates you sending them our way.)

Hmmmmmm. Wonder what Jorel will do? And I see there's still no Seth on the list. Wonder what he'll do?

If he’s not drafted, not much he can do, other than return or quit playing baseball.

I don’t like seeing Stanwich that high. I haven’t seen him that high in other mocks.

Seth could come back for another season or sign an undrafted free agent contract . I think those are his two baseball options. Am I wrong?

Correct. Not sure why he'd sign a FA deal. Remember, he wasn't even a starter until Dickey got hurt. Coming back as a full-time starter all year would give him a great opportunity to get drafted. And the COVID year would put a little remaining leverage in his pocket.

But predicting what these kids will do is a crapshoot.

Yeah, all true. But think about what faces Seth: His lack of power means he could only play three positions in MLB - CF, SS, or 2B. Last season, he lost the competition for the middle infield spots to two guys who weren't great defensive players (a SS with a mediocre arm and a 2B without great hands), played LF when Dickey got hurt, and CF briefly when Drew was out a couple of times. So he may not have the glove to play the 2B or the arm to play SS or CF. There must be a reason he isn't on any draft boards. After all, he has elite speed and a decent offensive game. We have an opening at 2nd base and CF that he could compete for, but even if he wins one of those jobs he will have to show he has the arm and the glove. If he can't - ie, he just doesn't have those talents, there's really not much point in him playing anymore, unless he just loves to play, or he feels he can improve on his weeknesses, either of which could be the case. But, predicting what he'll do is a crapshoot, as you say. I'd love to have him back, selfishly for my fan reasons. Maybe he could be our leadoff hitter DH and not play the field except as depth.

I think he has the arm for CF, but not SS. He made some putouts on base runners from the OF last year. Maybe a year in CF will improve his stock.
