I’m surprised at how little information there is on baseball recruiting, period!I poked around some when you first asked, but had a hard time finding anything. I'm kind of surprised how little information there is out there on JUCO commitments.
I understand the FA deals but I would struggle telling my son to take a FA deal in this baseball world where it can only be $25,000 versus coming back to UT. I reckon if you only have one year left to play, you have little to no negotiation power.
Gilbert will be the first to go, somewhere between 10-15.
Tidwell goes next, around 20.
Beck around 28th
Joyce, hmm, 52-78. He’ll go 2nd round or very early in the 3rd.
The other Vols? 4th round or later.

I think those first 5-6 are going to be good. I wouldn’t be upset with Gilbert going to an organization like the Cards.Okay, baseball gurus, I’m excited as heck to see how our Vols pan out starting tonight in the draft. I’m going to make a completely homer prediction or two here. First, Drew Gilbert goes to that Birds on the Bat organization with the 22nd pick, and secondly, Jackson Holliday goes as the top pick over Druw Jones. Interested in what the men and women of the forum think about any or all draft picks. I do think that both Jones and Holliday are going to be insanely great players at the highest level.

Yeah, that’s a good take, in my opinion. I’m interested to see what happens with Ben Joyce. I think some organization takes a flyer and picks him higher than many expect. I’m sure the Joyce family will have some excitement and lots of butterflies the next few days.I think the first 5 picks are a complete crapshoot. It all depends on what the unpredictable Orioles do. I’m going to guess they go underslot and take Temarr Johnson just to be different.
In regards to our Vols, I’m going to make a few bold predictions. Gilbert is the only first round pick. Both Blade and Beck go in the compensatory round from 31-39.

If a player gets drafted but decides to play another year in college, how long does that MLB team own the rights?
Thanks. They lose the rights to that player the moment they reject the offer. Instead the team is given a compensatory pick in the next draft.
For example, Jud Fabian was picked #41 by the Red Sox last year. He told them no. So, the Red Sox now get the #41 pick this year to make up for it.
Thanks.
So that example with Jud, is he required to wait until next years draft after he rejected the Red Sox or could he wait for another team to draft him in a later round?
I'm a long-time Orioles fan, follow them closely, and have no idea what they are going to do. There is no clear best player, and who they covet the most to develop for their team - rather than as trade bait, is probably who they will choose. That would be a SS or a CF. Could be any of the top who qualify for that, and how much they are willing to sign for will be a factor. Could be Jones or Johnson or a couple of others. It will not be a pitcher.
