Imo, they do go by win/loss record more than who you beat or who you lose to. We take care of business and beat Ky, and Mo. we will move ahead of them.
That’s generally correct for this time of year. This is usually where the shift starts to start coming in to adjust for undefeated major conference teams.

And yes, if UT beat them, they’d move ahead of them (honestly, either would easily become the team’s best win of the year so far).

Not helping unfortunately: Kentucky blew out Florida (who beat Tennessee in a game UT performed really poorly in) and Missouri also is a bit better in the better wins department than UT (Kansas State was ranked 15th when Missouri beat them, and they’re still sitting right outside the rankings as a one loss team). UT’s best win right now is either South Carolina or UTSA I would guess.

I can understand UK, but Missouri is absurd
They’re also 5-0 and beat a ranked team when they played them (Kansas State, who’s currently sitting right outside the rankings at 4-1). Unfortunately Tennessee has a loss and its best win currently sits as either 2-2 South Carolina or UTSA? (…because Virginia still has yet to win a game).

In the next two week - Kentucky plays at Georgia then has Missouri at home. Missouri plays LSU then Kentucky. One of these teams will have at least 1 loss in 2 weeks. It is very possible that both have 1 loss and one may even have 2.

The Vols are definitely under-ranked right now (should be about five spots higher), but it doesn't matter that much in my mind. Even if they were ranked fairly, they'd need to beat both Bama and TAMU to get back into the top ten and I feel like doing both is going to get them there right now as well.

The SEC is viewed as less dominant this year, so there isn't a prayer that the Vols could get into a NY6 Bowl at 9-3 regardless of their ranking right now. If the team's only loss for the rest of the year is Georgia, it'll be another prime time big boy bowl matchup.

I'm just not buying these rankings after 5 weeks. I think some of these wins by some teams ranked higher are overvalued and we will see by week 8-9. Some are ranked high based on a single win to teams when you really look closer aren't as good as assumed. Also, the egg we laid against Florida will take a while to correct.

I don't agree with us dropping behind Mizzou, but I understand. Mizzou is undefeated & has a ranked win (albeit Kansas St.). The Florida loss looks worse after Kentucky waxed their ass. As long as we keep winning, things will correct themselves.

It’s all still in our hands. Win every game from here on out and we are national champions.

Kentucky could be difficult. I expect a really close game. We should run Missouri right out of the stadium. They are going to get drilled by an angry LSU team. Candy is the best team Mizzou has played and that says something.

Vols don't really pass the "eye test" at this point. Not trying to debate different schedules, but we really haven't beaten anybody. Plus, we were totally undressed on national TV by a bad Florida team that KY drilled.

Florida is gonna make our loss to them look worse and worse, which is why our performance down there is gonna be progressively more infuriating.
Yes it is. I called 6-6 or 7-5 for them after that game and here they go. I'll swear I can't understand how we find a way to lay eggs against them for 30+ years in the same division. Inexplicable.

Not really, by a pretty significant margin. 4-1 Kansas State (who was #15 at the time; they’re currently sitting at the “gets ranked as soon as the next team loses” position vote-wise) is.

The media really loves them some Mizzou this year for some reason. Ranked ahead of Ke tucky this entire time despite unimpressive wins against Memphis, Vandy and a suspect Kstate.

K-State hasn’t beaten anyone of consequence either. They are actually 3-1. Their best win is UCF who isn’t very good either UCF is a bottom three team in conference who just lost to a middling Baylor team. All these big conf teams playing FCS and G5 games is inflating records without any real production. Wins over Semo, a down Troy, and .500 or worse UCF isn’t good either. Them vs. Vandy would be a great pillow fight. Maybe KSU is better but they still are not good.

Pollsters are saying, “Well, it was South h Carolina.”
But, but…Rattler said: “Beating South Carolina is like winning our Super Bowl.” Guess that accusation checks out as false. Pollsters confirm they are mediocre.

I think 18-22 is about right for this team. Until they prove themselves against better competition, they really don't deserve much higher. When UF is your toughest opponent, you can't really witch about your ranking.
