A couple of thoughts;

Hendrix- Massive for True Freshman.
Thomas- Masssive OL
Mixon Beefed up
Carson- Gave Up

Hendrix could play inside at DT with that size and he would be a real force with his quickness and speed.

first off there is no real "nose tackle" in a 4-3

mccullers weighed 360 and couldnt get a push. Over the years theres been several dominant 280-300lbs DL in the SEC. We run a 4-3 where DT are 280 and up. Thats why you have two of them.

Dom Easley was the best DT in the league before getting injured and it wasnt close. He was about 6'2 280lb. His whole game was being quick and explosive.I could give you about 20 other players in the SEC over the years that were about the same size give or take a couple pounds. I wouldnt have to think very much to do it.

Most of the standout DL in the country are 285-300lb type DTs. We dont need a true nose guard. Im glad we are big, quicker, stronger and athletic now. Instead of being big, slow and not very athletic.

Hell on offense our OL averaged about 315lbs the past three yrs and they were the worst short yardage line ive ever seen. Its not always about size. Whether its defense or offense its about being tenacious and explosive. Whether a kid is 285lbs or 305lbs it doesnt matter if the 305lb kid is soft.

While some have suggested that Jashon Robertson is probable for the OL, I think we need him worse in the DL, and if he's 304, unless that's really bad weight, he should be able to come in there and spell a few snaps as #5 DT, in my humble opinion.

Speed, quickness is the issue I believe.. Not size

The WOW's! for me on that roster:

Jasom Croom - bigger than most of our listed tight ends!

Dontavius Blair - really slimmed down and hopefully is in playing shape now

Coleman Thomas - big ol' boy!

Jordan Williams - he will be a real threat at DT with his speed, strength, weight, and experience

Evan Berry - almost 200 lbs and playing corner? Watch out.

Almost exactly the same things I noticed. I guess I could just say ditto.

Not trashing him. I just honestly don't know. A 370# 18yr old. That's huge and he doesn't look to have a frame like McKenzie for example. Thought he needed to be around 330 to play effectively?

1. Mosley is bigger than Kahlil and was in HS.

2. He was in a serious car wreck before he could do any working out with the team and tore his ACL and MCL. Likely headed for a redshirt anyways, but this will really slow down his conditioning. Hoping for the best with him.

Good stuff, with one correction: the base 4-3 doesn't have a nose, necessarily. The base LEO has a nose/run stuffer/double team occupier. Mosley can play in this defense.

J Williams... hope that 284 is for real.

I think so. Saw him in some of those weight room pics. Has a bit of a spare tire on him now. Hope most of tjat gain that is good weight. Plenty of NFL DTs who have a gut.

At 328, Coleman Thomas has beefed up.
At 300, Blair has slimmed down and toned up.
At 243, Croom should be the best blocking WR on the team. He has a frame to play WR, TE, LB, DE.

BASE LEO?? LEO is a position in a def scheme, not a defense. It's basically a nickel package with a LB playing DE. IE: Maggitt

You are being too kind. They were worse than that.

No nose tackle. No guys in the 320 range except Carson. Guys over 300 are Freshmen (meaning still soft)

On the 1998 NC team, our heaviest defensive lineman was 281 lbs. Our heaviest offensive lineman was 315 lbs. More athletic players vs big bulky players is the way to go. We need defensive players that are explosive and can get after the QB and RB's. We do not need 320+ lb defensive players to just plug a hole. The exception to that will come next year with Kahlil Mckenzie, he is extremely aggressive at his weight.

Does anyone know who will not participate in Fall camp due to injury?

As of right now, nobody. Even Branisel, Downs, and Jenkins have been given the green light to start off spring practices fully. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that the coaches won't limit their snaps or put them in non-contact jerseys or anything until they've seen that they can physically withstand the rigors.

I'm pretty sure Maggit was expected to be pretty much a full go around this time last year too, so it wouldn't surprise me to see at least Branisel redshirt if we get good, consistent play from Helm and Wolf.

Wow that is pretty awesome. I know that the Paulk will probably be limited this year as he recovers, but still being 100% healthy going into camp is pretty awesome.

We need an official prayer group thread for the vols. Can't afford ANY injuries this year. Especially on the lines.

Man. I would like to see Jason croom as a TE VS a linebacker. 6 ft 5 at 245.
Ya gotta' know opposing DC's aren't going to want to deal with that situation. Croom's a freak of nature with his mixture of speed, athleticism and size. Cornerbacks are going to wish for longer arms; LB's for more speed. It's a mismatch made in Big Orange Heaven. Scott's going to be in the conversation much more than some may suspect, IMHO, come mid-season. If this class of 32 meets with their potential, I think they'll stand out as one of the greatest group of newbies in the sport's history. 'No tellin' 'til time tells us, and it's almost time.

Still no Kameel Jackson on the roster? Did I miss him on there or did I miss something is he still expected to make it in?

Always an argument for why a weakness is not really a weakness. Bringing up McKenzie sort of proves my point.

Hope not. Hendrix stands to be the best combination of size and speed we've had coming off the edge in a long time.
