Upset Watch: Week #1

NC State has had some great players come through there. They’ve had a lot of high picks over the years. The crazy thing is the # of QB’s they’ve had drafted. Philip Rivers, Russel Wilson (it really pisses them off when you say he went to Wisconsin) Mike Glennon, Jacoby Brissett, Devin O’Leary will probably get a shot after this year. The thing about State is that they will beat Clemson or FSU when they were good one week and then lose to an ECU or BC or Duke the next. They just have knack for blowing it. They also tend to suck in OOC games against the P5. They got handled by Miss State last year.

one more RDU....Roman Gabriel, two time All American & second pick in the 1962 draft. He had a rifle for an arm back in the day...did the LA Rams well in his career. I'd put him ahead of any of those you mentioned, even Russell Wilson

I’ve heard that name, but he was a little before my time. I think your Wolfpack should win in Greenville this weekend, but things get weird over there sometimes. Anytime State or UNC comes to Greenville they treat it like it’s their Super Bowl. Bizarre to me that both State and Carolina are away at ECU and App this weekend. Those are dangerous games. I can’t figure why either school would agree to go to an OOC opponent like that.

Other than betting lines, I wouldn't consider Oregon over UGA a serious upset. Top of the pile from the PAC12 that is not a pushover.
0-12 schtick aside, Utah is an established team with most of their production returning on offense and defense.

UF has no identity, is breaking in a new staff with a roster that’s anything but deep.

How Utah is only a 3-pt favorite is a testament to UF’s brand and little else.

All true. But, how many times in recent years has UF had that question mark going into game one and slid out the back door at the end of the season with maybe 3 losses tops. If that.

This is the most inexperienced and thin UF roster I’ve seen in quite some time.

And I’m old.

And also the most competent coach in a few tries. Napier will make the most of it and likely over achieve.

I don’t doubt Napier will, at a minimum, get our talent level back to where it should be. I haven’t witnessed his coaching style enough to comment intelligently.

It just feels like 2022 will be a bumpy ride.

Utah has struggled against quality opponents on the road. I'd say that's one to keep a eye on..

I remember when they first started playing that the NC gubmunt was pretty much making them play EZU since they were all part of the UNC System, Greenville being a 'Regional University' back them. Appy State was not included way back then though.

he might have been, but I was mainly referring to their time in college...but he played 16 seasons in the pro's so he must not have been too bad...

he played at New Hanover in Wilmington for his HS days...lives there now I believe. Word was that Maryland end Gary Collins was the only receiver that could handle Roman's passes since he rifled them so hard....I don't think they ever played together though in the pros...he was in Cleveland for his pro days.

It’s just hard for me to see a 1st year HC coming into Georgia and winning. It’s going to be a sea of red and Oregon isn’t the same team

Agree.. I do think Oregon just might be better this year than last year. I think the most fun part of this game just might be how those "All world" GA TEs do vs Oregon's ILBs.

I don’t think anyone can consistently guard Brockers sp?
