Urban Meyer...Coach of the Year?

Out of curiosity, is anyone else bothered by the fact that UT fans have a fit when Gator fans make fun of Fulmer for being fat, which he is, whereas the same UT fans love to joke that Meyer is gay, which he in actuality is not?

Gator fans can't say crap about Fulmer being fat.....Charlie Weiss is the fattest man in College Football today...If he's not he's pullin a VERY tight second to the guy in Kansas and the guy in Maryland

I stopped with the Phil jokes a year ago but for some reason the UT fans seem to be transfixed by Meyer's sexuality. To be honest, its kind of creepy.

Is this board a front for NAMBLA or something? Did I not get the memo?

I know. But hitting 2500 posts (2502, I believe) I sort of wanted to give you guys a gift: making myself a pinata, if you will.

Kind of like a sacrificial lamb type deal? That's admirable....I wouldn't do it on a Gator board being a Vol fan but that's admirable....But ok, going on to talking abotu football.....As a Gator fan, I guess you're cheering for Louisville tomorrow night aren't you?

I suppose. To be honest, I have pretty much settled on the fact that Florida's best highest hope is at Sugar as SECCG winner. Failing that, Orange as an at-large BCS team would make me quite happy.

So much football to be played. I think the two danger games for us are Vandy and FSU. We ought to beat them, but they both worry me for various reasons.

If we take care of busines, the rest is out of our hands and the chips, as they say, will fall where they may.

I'd be worried about South Carolina if I was a Gator......That team is a different ball club with Newton in as QB...Have you guys seen a QB this year with Newton's speed and ability to run? Other than Russel? Vandy is a tough team this year....They may have on potential upset left in them this year, I just hope it isn't us again....I think you guys will have a cake walk with FSU but then again that's a rivalry game.....So that could go either way...I just want to get out of this weekend and next unscathed and get a decent bowl game, maybe play in the SECCG if you guys choke up and lose a game

I worry that FSU will be playing for Bobby's job. I do hear things from people down here that claim to be in the know. If they are right, Bowden will not be coaching FSU next year.

Hmmm, that's interesting.....He'll retire before he gets fired.....I'd say they're getting a little impatient and unhappy down there....But if that's the case, I'd probably be worried too.....I don't know if you care or not, and I know I don't...But does Alabama not play FSU next year? I swear I believe I heard that somewhere

No, fat jokes about CPF do not bother me. Just shows how pathetic fans are when they take jabs at someones weight.

Mangino is still the biggest man in college football.

No, but OWB is a member.

it's hard for me to consider a guy as coach of the year when he has the most penalized team in the conference, and has a kicking game as bad as UF's.

give him a lot of credit for having a ton of talent...the gators are good. and he's done a nice job of managing the Tebow/leak thing, so it's not all bad.

but i would reserve coach of the year for guys like:
Jim Grobe, Wake Forest, if they make the ACC championship game
Tom O'brien, also, if they were to make the ACC championship game.
Gregg Schiano, Rutgers...can anyone not vote for him, regardles of how they fair the rest of the season....this is rutgers for goodness sakes.
Jim Tressell, Ohio St. obvious reaons
Lloyd Carr...7-5 and on the hot seat a year ago, to 8-0 and legitmately in the NT hunt this year.
Bobby Petrino, L'ville, if they do in fact go undefeated, esp. after losing Bush and having to go with out Brohm for part of the season.
Phil Fulmer, really only if they win out. like Lloyd Carr...had a lot to prove this year and so far has done a great job.
Houston Nutt...would be hard to argue against him if they make it to ATL after going 3-8 last season.

Why should Carr and TCHFCATUTK get credit for "rebound" years in COY voting? That's like getting credit for fixing a car after you get drunk and wreck it.

As I started the list, I KNEW you would have Fulmer on there.

Yeah, he desrves consideration. But so does Meyer. The penalties are bad, yes, but the Gators have overcome them for a pretty good year. The kicking game isn't his fault - the kid just needs a night of drunken debauchery at the Tri-delt house to get his groove back.

If it's anything like the Tri-delts I know, his groove won't be back, but his rash will be.

Yep. It's each coach's fault that their teams are having to have "reboud years" to begin with.

:lolabove: good point actually...but i'll stand by the reasoning...and really more so to Carr's than Fulmer's. I guess Houston Nutt wasn't driving a car huh?:p

Fulmer was a homer pick for sure...and like i said, Meyer has done some good things, but is it really all that big a surprise that Florida is good? he has a ton, and i mean a ton of talent on that team, and if not for that talent, their undisciplined play would have lost them some games, along with the poor kicking game.

he's getting buy on talent imo, not purely on outstanding coaching. and that's not a bad thing or necessarily a jab at Meyer, he's a good coach, he's proven that at every other stop in his career so far...but not COY material this year imo.
