This is a very good point. Regardless of records, who really thinks OSU would beat AU, Bama, or even FSU right now? This has the ND debacle of last year written all over it.

Again, that isn't what decides what the rankings are.

I thought that Georgia or Texas A&M would have had a better shot at beating Alabama in the natty than Notre Dame. Maybe LSU as well. Does that mean the two should have played again in the title game?

No. Your thoughts on who would don't matter. It's the bcs that does. Hence the games we all watched.

That's my point...the BCS doesn't "have thoughts" on which team would have a better chance of beating another. Based on that logic, Texas A&M/Georgia/some other team would have been played ahead of ND for last year's title game. The BCS is based upon how well you've played the schedule you were dealt.

LSU disagrees, no way they should have had to play Bama twice with that logic. They beat them on the road, why play them again? Bama played their schedule and lost, only to get to play them again? I think you are discounting the role lobbying and politics play in this. ND was going to draw national attention, OSU will as well. Everybody except Lou Holtz knew ND had no chance that game. Everybody knows the sane with OSU.

Why are you bringing up 'squeaking out', as if Auburn has blown out their top ten opponents?

No, there is not a chance. I know all of you guys want for the SEC to be represented come hell or high water, but if tOSU wins out, tOSU plays in the title game. Voters do not vote on who is the best team in the country; they vote on who has handled their business the best. tOSU has done all it can to handle its business, and its business occurred in a major conference. Voters will think that is enough.

If voters actually cast their votes according to the team they thought was truly the best team in the nation, then Alabama would be number one again in this coming week's polls. Alabama is still the best team in the nation; unfortunately, Alabama did not handle their business. Auburn, also, failed to handle their business against LSU. Coming back and beating Bama and beating Mizzou will not vault Auburn above a flawless major conference team.

The history of the system bears this out, and precedents remain in place among voters in these polls just as they do with Heisman voters. If Auburn jumps an undefeated tOSU it will be absolutely unprecedented; and, such an unprecedented event will not occur if it is a huge name like tOSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, etc. getting the shaft. Now, if Indiana University were undefeated with tOSU's schedule this season, then maybe that unprecedented jump would occur (but, even then, I would think it unlikely).

I tend to agree that tOSU will get in but I don't think it is out of the question they get snubbed either. Combine their performance during two most recent trips to the NCG with the fact that Meyer isn't exactly liked by a lot of coaches who vote and you have a legit recipe for getting bounced in the human polls. It's a slim chance but very possible.

I never said they played a tough schedule. But, they have played and beaten at least one ranked team. That is a fact.

Further, to assert that b/c tOSU has not played anyone, they will struggle with MSU is ridiculous, since MSU has played an even weaker schedule.

This. If the season ended today, which of the following teams would be included in the four-team playoff?

FSU
tOSU
Auburn
Mizzou
Clemson
Bama
Ok. State

There are seven teams there that each have legitimate arguments to be included.
There is a reason why I hate the whole "if the season ended today" argument. It usually works itself out, as it did yesterday.
