Barnes deserves applause for the recruiting upswing, but year 5 shouldn’t be duct tape and bailing wire. Walker and Burns departures were big set backs, especially in light of missing Blackburn and Uros being ineligible.Because this board has a tendency to overreact when a criticism of Barnes is made that I am immediately asking for his firing, so because of that I have to put that caveat so people can’t automatically starting asking “WELLLLLLWHY DO YA WANT HIM FIRED”
And we are talking about Uros being ineligible to play, which hurts our tournament chances, which if we don’t make the tourney, hurts the program. So it’s relevant. And I’ve stated multiple times that they could definitely make the tourney. Could everyone not be annoying when I make a criticism of Barnes that I’m not advocating for his firing?
He's not the kind of 5 star that will average 20+ points because he's so unselfish. But, trust me, he still looks like the kind of 5 star that wins games. UT will be fine, I still believe this is a NCAA Tourney team, bubble team is the worst case scenario, imoBarnes deserves applause for the recruiting upswing, but year 5 shouldn’t be duct tape and bailing wire. What I saw the other night created more concern than comfort. Aside from Turner and Bowden, it’s thin. And we’ve been told our 5-star isn’t “that” kind of 5-star.
Only if you are loosely defining the role of guard. We are woefully thin at 1 and 2 guards. If you’re comfortable that Pons could be a bonafide guard then more power to you. As it stands you have three true guards you can count on.6 guards for 3 spots, 4 are returning players
4 players to fill 2 forward or center spots.....only one has experience.
I’m going to reserve judgment. I just don’t see a team that is leaning on this many marginal players (specifically in the post) as being a tourney team. He's not the kind of 5 star that will average 20+ points because he's so unselfish. Last year you had Admiral, Bone, Turner and Bowden who could all handle the b-ball and bring it up the floor and they were thin last year. They were fortunate there were no major injuries. Jalen hasn’t shown to be that type of player yet, so I’ll believe it when I see it.Yea......and you got one......ONE forward “you can count on”
I’m fairly confident Jalen could roll at 2 if needed. Nevertheless Tennessee looks to have 3 very capable at the 1 & 2......pretty much like last year.
Tennessee has Johnson, Pons, and Gaines who all could roll at the 3.....sure Gaines needs some growth but he will provide time.
In say a 10 man rotation how many more guards you want?
Sure we would all love to see more and more experienced players.....but Tennessee has “enough.”.......at least as much at 1-3 as they had last season.

And they were thin last year. Admiral is the x-factor as he was able to handle the ball and create.Just saying last year they had Bone, Turner, and Bowden.
This year they have Turner, Bowden and James.
Last year at the wing they had Admiral, Pons, Johnson
This year they got Pons, Johnson and Gaines.
Tennessee’s major needs are down low......at least until a couple freshman and Kent show they can play.
