Spain isn't as good as they used to be. Their top 3 NBA guys from that core 2010s teams (Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka) are all not there anymore. They still have Rudy Fernandez tho lol. Their top NBA guy is Santi Aldama right nowI would have expected Spain to spank them soundly. Most of the European teams are fairly good. France, Germany, Spain and the Baltic States. Those along with the US and Canada are the teams to beat.
They are infinitely better than the Bahamas Ayton, Hield and Gordon are good NBA players not stars lol. Spain might not have any single player better than any of those 3 but that's literally all the Bahamas had.Spain isn't as good as they used to be. In recent years it's been the other way around, with FIBA tournaments allowing a lot more contact. Combined with the tighter spacing it's a more physical game. They are infinitely better than the Bahamas Ayton, Hield and Gordon are good NBA players not stars lol. The international ball is not as simple as just put talented guys out there and win. unless you go Defcon 1 and throw out the monsters like we did in 92 08 and this year. The rules are very different and NBA players have to change their style of play completely the guys they play against have played together for years under these same rules their whole lives. It's like Gonzaga or Princeton back in the day they win on skill and finesse. Basketball is a game skill much more so than any other major sport. You can't just unlearn that goaltending is bad or play less physical. Most of these guys haven't seen zone defense in decades.
Yes this USA team would have to have a miserable shooting day to lose to anyone. They got it all, 3 pt shooting, inside play. If they are focused they win.
Durant hasn’t been playing any of the games, as he has been injured. Plus Kerr is doing full-on line changes, hockey style, to bring out a fresh 5 ready to run. They have a lot of old guys who don’t like to run. I could see them losing early to a young team that pushes the ball, because Lebron and Durant just had to play more than half the game.
